Boxing day Meeting, Dec 26th 2001, 12 cars
A good turnout of cars for the final Nutts Corner meeting of 2001, and the 2001 King of Nutts Corner meeting.
The turnout included ex junior stock star, Craig McConnel using the Ian Keenen #3 car, and it was great to see Davy McCrory (940) back out at Nutts Corner.
Just eight cars lined up for the first heat, on a very wet track (all credit however to Ian Thompson and Darren McKinstry for getting the snow cleared off the track at all). McConnel, starting from a white grade, held the lead for a while, before Paddy McAtmney came through, the early action being Davy McCrory crashing out in the first bend. Ian Thompson Jnr quickly came through the field to take the lead, which he would hold to the finish, McAtamney finishing second, with Gary Thompson third, Gary Beggs fourth, Jeff Minish fifth. McConnel crashed out in the later stages of the race.
11 cars made it out for the final, with the ranks boosted by Darren McKinstry, Andrew Stewert, Raymond Percy and Ronald Scott, Craig McConnel failed to make it back out after his accident in the heat. Andrew Stewert made the early running, but again it was Ian Thompson Jnr who came through the pack to take a lead that he never looked like losing, Jeff Minish came through to finish second, with Davy McCrory coming home third, Andrew Stewert held on to fourth with Gary Thompson fifth and Ronald Scott sixth.
Heat- 901 (Ian Thompson Jnr), 974 (Paddy McAtamney), ## (Gary Thomspon), 74 (Gary Beggs), 251 (Jeff Minish)
Final- 901, 251, 940 (Davy McCrory), 669 (Andrew Stewert), ## (Gary Thompson), 10 (Ronald Scott)

NEWSFLASH- TRACKSTAR TO RUN FLAFFER FORMULA IN 2002
Promotors Trackstar have announced that they are quiting BriSCA F2, they will instead run a "shale only" F2 type formula.
Trackstar run Skegness shaleway, Kings Lynn, and Sheffield stadiums, all shale venues.
Trackstar aren't a great lose to the formula, but it is very unfortunate that the sport will lose three shale venues.
Hopefully from the spectators point of view this will bring down the cost of addmission to trackstar venues, seeing as it will cut the cost of promoting the "flaffer" f2 type formula, after all if the flaffer formula is as popular as the formula run at the last non F2 trackstar meeting I was at then don't be expecting more then a dozen cars, which is bound to be cheaper to promote than 50/60 REAL BriSCA F2s.
In the interest of F2 we can only hope that other shale tracks, such as Swindon will run more F2 meeting to give the shale drivers who want to compete in a serious formula more meetings.

Congratulations to unloaded 7.3 on an excellent report on the BriSCA F2 Irish closed championship. It is the first time the magazine has given the championship full coverage, and is nice to see.

ON TOUR, Cowdenbeath 27/10/01
Four Northern Ireland F2s were at Cowdenbeath on the 27th of October for the final F2 meeting of the season at the Venue, and the Champion of Champions race.
In the last chance qualifier for the champion of champions race, 901 Ian Thompson Jnr finished 4th, but was later excluded from the results as he had already qualified for the big race.
940 Davy McCrory was 5th, booking his place in the meeting Final, 34 Aidie Shaw was 8th, with 74 Gary Beggs 10th.
Ian Thompson finished 8th in the Champion of Champions race, after having what looked like handling difficulties.
In the consoltaion race, Aidie Shaw finished 8th, Gary Beggs failed to finish after the throttle cable snaped.
In the final, Shaw finished 7th, Davy McCrory crashed out in the early stages when a car spun in front of him and Ian THompson Jnr was taken out of the race after a collision with Barry Goldin

Nutts Corner 17/10/01- (16 cars)
A great turn out for the last meeting in the season, its just a pity that there was only a heat and a final for each Formula. The main talking point of the meeting, the first outing of 940 Davy McCrory since the 2000 Irish Championship and its great to see him back on the track.
Andrew Stewert 669 took the win in the first heat, with Paddy McAtamney finishing second and Daryl Fegan third. One of the highlights of the race was a battle between Colin McCreedy and Gary Beggs, the later finishing the race in the fence after Ian Thompson Jnr took the two of them. Thompson went on to finsh Second.
The final too was a lively event, again it was white top driver Stewert who was leading the way up until the closing stages when Graham Fegan caught and passed him. Further down the field Ian Thompson was having a battle with Gary McFerran, Thompson taking the place.
Heat- 669, 974, 972, 901, 78, 967
Final- 998 (not sure of full result, if anyone can help me it would be much appreciated)

Final Points Standings
1st 901 Ian Thompson Jnr 825 Pts
2nd 78 Gavin Fegan 572 pts
3rd 998 Graham Fegan 567pts

Nutts Corner 10/10/01- (12 cars)
Still keeping a half decent turn out of a dozen cars, although a few regulars still missing. Interesting point to note was the Production car Irish Champion John Christie was out racing the Darren McKinstry car, John was going well staying out of trouble and got a 7th place in the final.
The racing was dominated by 669 Andrew Stewert racing from a white grade, but the action was battles between Ian Thompson Jnr and Graham and Gavin Fegan, this time it was the Fegan's coming off the better in the placings, with Graham taking the final win.
Heat 1- 669, 972, 998, 901, 78, 198
Heat 2- 669, 998, 901, 967, 78, 972
Final- 998, 901, 78, 967, 972

Nutts Corner 3/10/01- (12 cars)
Not a bad turn out of cars consittering the Championship is over and it was a wet night. Once again Daryl Fegan was driving George Fegan's HCD and took a hat- trick of wins. The main talking point of the meeting was a night long battle between Ian Thompson Jnr and Graham and Gavin Fegan. The three exchanging blows all night. In the first heat it was Jeff Minish who managed to come through from the red roofs to take second, while Gravin Fegan got the better of Thompson to finish third. In the second heat Gavin Fegan again got the better of Thompson to finish second, with Thompson third and Graham Fegan fourth. The first lap of the final seen Graham Fegan spin Thompson, who re joined, the length of the straight behind him. Graham and Gavin went on to have a mid race battle, exchanging places and blows which eventually included Jeff Minsh, Thompson gained on the three as they slowed each other down, Jeff Minish pulling off with a few laps to go. With a lap to go Thompson cought and  spun Gavin Fegan, but slowed himself down to much in the process to be able to make a challange on Graham Fegan for second place.
Heat 1- 972 Daryl Fegan, 251 Jeff Minish, 78 Gavin Fegan, 901 Ian Thompson Jnr, 998 Graham Fegan, 69 Colin McCreedy
Heat 2- 972, 78, 901, 998, 251, 69
Final- 972, 998, 901, 69, 78, 974 Paddy McAtamney

On Tour
Once again Ian Thompson Jnr was at Cowdenbeath on Saturday (29/9) night. Ian picked up a fifth in his heat after being docked two places for jumping a restart, he went on to pick up a third place in the final and a very creditable second in the Grand National. I was fortunate enough to be at the meeting, see the Webmaster on Tour section for a full report.

Nutts Corner 26/9/01- (10 cars)
A bit of a dissapointing turn out after the 19 cars last week, but at least some drivers are still prepared to make the effort now that the championship races are over.
A heat and final double for Ian Thompson Jnr with the other heat going to Ronald Scott.
Thompson came through the field well in the first heat to take the win from, Paddy McAtamney with Gavin Fegan coming home third.
The second heat had to be stopped mid race after a power failure cut out the lights down one side of the track, leaving white grader Ronald Scott the winner, again from McAtamney with Thompson third.
The final seen and early battle between McAtamney and Gary Beggs, who is getting quicker and quicker each week, Gary Beggs eventually getting the better of McAtamney, with only Ian Thompson Junior managing to get passed him three laps from the flag, Gavin Fegan was third with McAtamney fifth.
The only other point of note was that Daryll Fegan made a rare appearence, driving George Fegan's HCD.
Heat 1- 901, 974, 78, 998, 198, 7
Heat 2- 10, 974, 901, 78, 7, 998
Final- 901, 74, 78, 974, 998, 7

Nutts Corner 19/9/01, Irish Closed Championship (19 cars)
The best turn out of cars this season, although there was still a few cars missing. Nice to see Ian Murdock back 46.
The Irish Closed championship looked set to be a battle between the Fegans and Ian Thompson Jnr, with Graham Fegan and Thompson starting side by side on the first row with Gavin slotting in behind Ian Thompson jnr. However none of the three of them emerged from the first bend, Thompson didn't get the best of starts and was quicky put in the fence by the two Fegan cars, who both joined him in retiring from the race. The race had to be stopped as Gavin Fegan and Thompson had lost wheels in the inncodent. This left Raymond Percy 40, sitting on the outside of row two on his own, but as the cars went into the first bend Darren McKinstry went in hard to claim the lead, Percy was then pushed down to second and within no time Jeff Minish (now sporting a red roof) was up to third. The positions would stay like that until the end of the race, Percy closed down on McKinstry in the closing laps, but McKinstry did just enough to hold on to win, although he nearly threw it away when he started his celebrating in the last bend of the race. The race also had a good battle for the lower places between 74 Gary Beggs and 198 Mervyn Percy who eventually managed to spin each other and had to settle for finishing just inside the top 10. George Fegan claimed fourth, with 669 Andrew Stewart fith and a great result for Ted Holland picking up sixth.
Heat 1 seen the return of Ian Thompson Jnr, and he was quick to get back into the way of things, taking a heat win, from long time race leader Ronald Scott, with George Fegan third. Once again Gary Beggs was in the thick of the action, having a long battle with Gary McFerran, before finally finishing fifth.
Heat 2, Gavin Fegan was back out, but surprisingly Thompson didn't return the compliment from the Championship race. Again it was Thompson who took the win, with Gavin Fegan finishing second, Ronald Scott getting another good third place, then there was a three car battle for fourth, between George Fegan, Gary McFerran and Gary Beggs, McFerren eventually getting the place from Fegan with Beggs finishing sixth.
Irish Closed Championship- 747 Darren McKinstry, 40 Raymond Percy, 251 Jeff Minish, 718 George Fegan, 669 Andrew Stewert, 278 Ted Holland
Heat 1- 901 Ian Thompson Jnr, 10 Ronald Scott, 718, 40, 74 Gary Beggs, 998 Graham Fegan
Heat 2- 901, 78 Gavin Fegan, 10, 967 Gary McFerren, 718, 74

On tour
Once again Ian Thompson Jnr found his way to the racewall Cowdenbeath (venue for the 2002 WF, I'm told) on Saturday (15th) night.
He finished Second in his first heat, fifth in his second heat, and fourth in the Grand National. Once again thanks to Kevin Mcqueen for these results.

Ballymena 14/9/01 (7 cars)
Heat 1-
78 Gavin Fegan, 998 Graham Fegan, 34 Aidie Shaw
Heat 2- 998, 78, 967 Gary McFerran
Final- 78, 967, 747 Darren McKinstry

Nutts Corner 12/9/01- (16 cars)
A great turnout for the F2s, although there was a few regulars missing, including 71 Trevor Moore. It was nice to see rare outings for 10 Ronald Scott amd 3 Ian Keenen. Hopefully that number will be improved on next week for the F2 Irish Championship next week.
Heat one seen a win from Ian Thompson Jnr, with three Fegans in the following three places. The race was brough under control after Darren McKinstry lost a while.
Heat two seen a win for Gavin Fegan, again the race was brought under control, after a car ended up in a dangerous position. Gavin, made up valuable places after the rest of the field slowed down for a yellow flag, but to his credit Gavin Fegan was the only person who realised that the race wasn't being brought under control and thus drove past a few other good drivers. After the re-start there was a pile up including Jeff Minish and Graham Fegan.
Another win was to follow in the final for Gavin Fegan, who now must be one of the favourites to retain the Irish Championship next week. 967 Gary McFerren was long time leader of the race, however was put in the fence by Ian Thompson Jnr with only a few laps to go. Thompson finshed second with Minish third, George Fegan fourth and Raymond Percy fifth
Heat 1- 901, 998, 78, 718, 40, 251
Heat 2- 78, 901, 967, 40, 3, 718
Final- 78 (Gavin Fegan), 901, 251, 718, 40, 747

NI @ Northampton WF weekend- updated 13/9/01
On Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th September, four Northern Ireland cars went over to Northampton for the World Final Speedweekend. 78 Gavin Fegan, 901 Ian Thompson Jnr and 998 Graham Fegan raced in the World Final as well as some support races, and 747 Darren McKinstry raced in the Support Races.
The First event on the Saturday night was time trials for the oversesa entrants in the World Final, in which Ian Thompson Jnr and Graham Fegan set the fastest two times, earning places on row 3 of the World Final Grid.
On the Saturday night all four cars were in action in the support races, with 901 finishing 6th in heat 1, with 747 9th. In heat 2 998 finished 4th, while in heat 3 78 was placed a lowly 11th. 901 and 998 qualified for the final, whilst 78 and 747 failed to qualify although did manage to finish their consolation races. In the meeting final 998 was 11th and 901 13th.
On World Final day, 747 was in action in the first heat, but a colision saw him sidelined and he failed to finish.
On to the World Final, and the Northern Ireland interest soon disapeared. Gavin Fegan didn't even make the start, as he pulled off before rolling lap after suffering from a fuel pump problem that sidelined him for the big race. A massive pill up on the first lap soon seen 998 sidelined as well, as he hit the armco very hard, at the front of a train of cars, including Thompson Jnr. Thompson however was able to re grid for the re-start but one lap later was pushed wide by Tim Farrell and eventually hit the wall, damaging the car and forcing him out of the race.
The race was then set to turn into a classic, Goldin and Kitson exchaged hits and places a few times in the early laps, Goldin at one stage driving on the brakes coming out of the corners to keep Kitson at bay. Kitson soon got passed and left the rest of the field in his dust. Goldin held on to second with Farrell never too far behind. Then with about 5 laps remaining disaster struck for Kitson, as he got tangled up with a back marker and was nearly taken out of the race, both Farrell and Goldin got passed, but the 732 car was soon back on the pace, and as the laps counted down soon passed Farrell and then Goldin to regain the lead, that was the way it stayed until the last bend when Farrell launched an attack on Goldin and got up the inside of the riegning National points Champion to take second place.
Result: 732 (Daz Kitson), 667 (Tim Farrell), 401 (Barry Goldin), 717 (Mike James), 542 (Peter Gilbert)
A full programme of support races followed, Darren McKinstry made up for the misfortune in his heat by qualifying for the meeting semi final through a 6th place in his consolation race. 901, 998 and 78 all got put in the same consolation race, all finished, but it was only 78 who was able to secure a 7th to qualify for the meeting semi final. From the Semi Finals 747 finished 11th, enough to get him into the meeting final, 78 failed to qualify directly through his semi final, but was able to qualify with a 6th in the consolation sami final.
998 Graham Fegan got a 6th place in the all comers race, for all non qualifiers.
In the meeting final 78 finished 11th, getting the only NI trophy for the weekend, by being the best overseas driver, a very good result consittering the meeting included drivers with the quality of H30 Toon Schut, H24 Willie Peeters amongst other top stars. 747 hit the wall in the final and was forced out of the race.

Despite the a disapointing world final showing, the meeting provided one of the best overall performances as a whole, that I personally have seen from the NI cars on the mainland, although it would have been nice to see Ian Thompson Jnr coming back out for more of the support races after failing to qualify for the final

One other interesting point to note was that Davy McCrory (ex 940- The real 99-2000 Irish Champion) was seen about the pits, its nice to see that he still has an interest in the formula, but would be even nicer to see the 940 car back out at Nutts Corner.

Nutts Corner 5/9/01- 13 cars

A good nights racing from the F2s although there was a few regulars missing from the line up. Ian Thompson Jnr has once again painted his car, or got another new one, I'm not sure which, but he wasn't going too well tonight.
The first heat took place on a damp and slippy looking track, and it was Jeff Minish who took the win, followed home by Ian Thompson Jnr and Gavin Fegan, with long time leader George Fegan in fourth.
Heat two seen slightly drier track conditions and the star men were able to come through the field a bit easier, with Gavin Fegan taking the win from Ian Thompson Jnr and George Fegan.
It was Gavin Fegan again who took the win in the final, after a first lap collision between Ian Thompson Jnr and Graham Fegan seen the race re-started and the two cars side lined. Raymond Percy got a well deserved second and George Fegan finished third.
Another interesting thing to note is that it if the F2s going to the world final use the directions of the commentator then they will end up in Peterbrough, and not Northampton, as it was anounced more times than enough about the three cars going to the world final in Peterborough, 78, 901 and 998.

Heat 1- 251, 901, 78, 718, 998, 40
Heat 2- 78, 901, 718, 40, 998, 69
Final- 78, 40, 718, 251, 69, 16 (Alister Murdock)

The three Northern Ireland drivers who will represent Northern Ireland, at the 2001 World Final, at Northampton International Raceway on the 9th of September are- 78 Gavin Fegan, 901 Ian Thompson Jnr, and 998 Graham Fegan. I would like to wish all of our drivers the best of luck in the quest for the gold roof.

Nutts Corner 8/8/01 (14 cars)
One of the best car turnouts of the season. George Fegan was back in his new car and had it going a bit better, expect him to get quicker still!!
Jeff Minish was going well throughout the meeting, as was Gavin Fegan, but it was Ian Thompson Jnr who took the spoils winning all three races with ease.
Heat 2 saw a yellow flag after Lewis Foy and Jeff Minish got tangled up on the racing line, Thompson had just moved into the lead at the time and was never to be caught.
In the final the only crash was between Darren McKinstry (using the borrowed Ian Thompson Snr car) and George Fegan, both cars ending up out of the race. There was also a heated exchange between Gavin Fegan and Graham Fegan, as Graham attempted to get past.

Heat 1- 901 (Ian Thompson Jnr), 251 (Jeff Minish), 998 (Graham Fegan), 71 (Trevor Moore), 718 (George Fegan), 13 (Jason Winning)

On Tour
On the second day of the Cowdenbeath Speedweekend Ian Thompson 901 had a slightly better day, finishing 3rd in the consolation race, 3rd in the feature race(final) and fourth in the Grand National.
Once again 901 Ian Thompson was at Cowdenbeath on Saturday 4/8/01, this time he only managed to pick up a second in his heat, which is still a good result.
Congratulations also to Bryn Tootell 600 for winning the 2001 Scottish Championship.
Thanks again to Kevin McQueen for these results, click here to visit his racewall site

Nutts Corner 1/8/01 (11 cars)
The F2s came back from their break down on numbers on what they stopped at. A few points to note where a rare outing for Jason Winning (13), the debut outing for 718 George Fegan's new car, although he only made it out for the final. Interesting to see that Raymond Percy (40) has his car for sale. Ian Thompson Jnr (901) has also given his car a lick of paint (see below)
digi901.JPG (75420 bytes)The highlight of the nights racing was a few battles between Ian Thompson Jnr and Graham Fegan (998). Thompson came out the better in the second heat and even took time to wave at Graham Fegan in passing, but in the Final it was the other way round, Fegan pushed Thompson wide, and then kept pushing until he spun.
Heat 1- 998 (Graham Fegan), 901 (Ian Thompson Jnr), 78 (Gavin Fegan), 40 (Raymond Percy), 71 (Trevor Moore), 69 (Colin McCreedy)
Heat 2- 901, 78, 40, 998, 71, 74 (Gary Beggs)
Final 78, 998, 40, 71, 69, 74

George Fegan (718) has got a new HCD car. The car was originally brought over for Darren McKinstry, but was bought off him by George Fegan. Hopefully this does not mean we have seen the last of Darren McKinstry for this season, but hopefully we will see a few over due race wins by George Fegan again.

Congratulations to 677 Chris Roots on becoming the 2001 English Champion at Taunton on Sunday 22nd July. No NI cars went to the meeting that I am aware of.

On Tour

Once again Ian Thompson Jnr raced at the racewall, Cowdenbeath on Saturday 21st of July, Ian had his best night at the racewall yet, finishing 2nd in the consoltaion race, second in the final and second in the Grand National.
It was also a successful night for NI stockrods, taking wins in both heats and the final. Thanks once again to Kevin McQueen for these results, visit his racewall Cowdenbeath site by clicking here.

On Tour

On Saturday 14th and Sunday the 15th of July, 901 Ian Thompson Jnr, 932 Ian Thompson Snr and 998 Graham Fegan went to Northampton for the European Championship weekend.
Ian Thompson Jnr faired the best of the 3 of them finishing 10th in his heat on the saturday night, and 10th in the consolation race. On the sunday he was the only NI driver to finish the euro, after Graham Fegan pulled off (something he did quite reguraly throughout the weekend) and Ian Thompson Snr lost a wheel. Thompson Jnr got two flying starts from the first two starts but on the third restart was spun round on the rolling lap, he did keep it going but to finish just outside the top 10.
He went on to finish 4th in his heat and become the only NI driver during the weekend to qualify for a meeting final, which he then went on to finish. He then came out again in the Grand National, the only NI driver to do so, and finished 9th after a heated battle with reigning British and National Points Champion Barry Goldin.
For more information on the Euro see my new ON TOUR page.

On Tour
The F2 European Championship is at Northampton on Sunday 15th July, the N.I cars that will be going over are Gavin Fegan (78), Ian Thompson Jnr (901), Ian Thompson Snr (932), Graham Fegan (998). I wish them all the very best of luck in their quest for the yellow and red chequed roof.

Nutts Corner 4/7/01 (14 cars)
One of the better turnouts of the season, and a good nights racing. Lewis Foy 27 made his comeback in a new car, Gary Beggs was once again out in the ex Speak/ Minish car, and he picked up his first points at Nutts Corner with a 6th in the final.
A different winner in each race, Heat 1 was won by Stuart Strain (235), Heat 2 say a win for Graham Fegan (998) after a huge hit on Stuart Strain in the last bend, and a Final win for Ian Thompson Jnr (901) after a huge hit on Gavin Fegan (78) with one lap to go.
George Fegan (718) also had a good nights racing and had several clashes with fellow blue grader Jeff Minish (251).
Heat 1- 235 (Stuart Strain), 251 (Jeff Minish), 901 (Ian Thompson Jnr), 718 (George Fegan), 998 (Graham Fegan), 71 (Trevor Moore)
Heat 2- 998, 235, 901, 718, 78 (Gavin Fegan), 40 (Raymond Percy)
Final- 901, 78, 998, 235, 40, XX (Gary Beggs)
Top points scorer- 901 Ian Thompson Jnr (32 points)

Nutts Corner 27/6/01 (11 cars)

Car turnouts are on the up again, Mervyn Percy (198) made his first Nutts Corner Appearence of the season. Once again Jeff Minish raced the Darren McKinstry HCD, and this time Darren McKinstry used the HCD Diamond chassis of Minish.
235 Stuart Strain had a good night with two heat wins and a second in the final, after moving over to let Ian Thompson Jnr past. Bad weather hindered the nights racing.

Heat 1- 235 (Stuart Strain), 901 (Ian Thompson Jnr), 718 (George Fegan), 78 (Gavin Fegan), 998 (Graham Fegan), 71 (Trevor Moore)
Heat 2- 235, 901, 78, 71, 718, 998

Top point Scorer: 235 Stuart Strain, 40 points

ON TOUR

For the fourth week in a row Ian Thompson Jnr 901 raced on the mainland, once again turning up at Cowdenbeath. Ian finished 5th in his heat before going on to finish 7th in the final. He is starting to become a bit of a regular at Cowdenbeath. Once again thanks to Kevin Mcqueen for these results, visit his Cowdenbeath site by clicking here

Nutts Corner 20/6/01 (8 cars)

Once again the car turn outs are down, and this time it was the worst car turnout of any class at Nutts Corner. However I cannot fault those who did turn up, 40 Raymond Percy, 69 Colin McCreedy, 78 Gavin Fegan, 251 Jeff Minnish, 278 Ted Allan, 718 George Fegan, 901 Ian Thompson Jnr, 998 Graham Fegan.
Jeff Minnish was driving the borrowed Darrn McKinstry HCD, and what a difference it made. Jeff is a driver who races week in, week out at Nutts Corner, but usually fails to get much of a mention. Tonight he got his first win of the season in heat two, and then went on to make it a heat and final double, with a final win, after seeing off the attention of Ian Thompson in the closing laps. Colin McCreedy also went well tonight, and for a long time looked like winning the final. The other heat winner was Ian Thompson Jnr, who excahanged one or two hits with Graham Fegan throughout the course of the night.

Heat 1- 901, 69, 40, 251, 998

Heat 2- 251, 69, 901, 998, 40

Final- 251, 901, 998, 69, 78

ON TOUR

On Sunday 17th fourNI cars went to the British Championship at Areana Essex. 901- Ian Thompson Jnr, 747- Darren McKinstry and 998- Graham Fegan, and 78 Gavin Fegan. Thompson came out the better of the four finishing 5th in heat 1, 10th in heat 4 and 7th in the final. McKinstry finished 9th in heat 1, and Graham Fegan finished 12th in Heat 1 and 8th in heat 4. Gavin Fegan failed to feature in the results but at least he made the effort. Well done to all four of them.

Britsh Championship race: 401 (Barry Goldin), 167 (Bill Batten), 600 (Bryn Totell), 324 (James Thrakra), 12 (Mark Wadsworth), 622 (Darren Bingley), 901 (Ian Thompson Jnr)

Many thanks to Roger for these results, who runs the excellent UK oval pages site

Incedently, when looking for the results I noticed a photo with the 901 shale car in the background, so Ian Thompson Jnr was most likely racing at Mildenhall on the Saturday night, I would be very grateful if anyone could confirm that for me.

Nutts Corner 13/6/01 (12 cars)

First of all I would like to thank F2 driver 505 Ivor Collins for travelling over here to race. Ivor travelled over from the the South-West of England I believe (several hundred miles) to race at Nutts Corner. I assume he was coming over for the F2 Irish Open, and even though it was called off still came over. Some of the N.I drivers could possibly learn something from this man, drivers who for some reason can't seem to make it to Nutts corner on a Wednesday night. Ivor Collins finished 2nd in heat 1, 7th in heat 2 after a collision with the wall and 5th in the final aftere being cought up in a mid race pile up. Other points of note where: 718-George Fegan has been downgraded to a blue roof, 998- Graham Fegan did not race in the F2s, but was present and did race in the 1300 bangers, saving the car for the British Championship perhaps??, Darren McKinstry scored his first win for a long time in heat 1, and finally Ian Thompson Jnr won a heat and final double, his fourth final win in four weeks.

Heat 1- 747 (Darren McKinstry), 505 (Ivor Collins), 40 (Raymond Percy), 69 (Colin McCreedy), 71 (Trevor Moore)

Heat 2- 901 (Ian Thompson Jnr), 747, 40, 69, 718 (George Fegan).... 7th- 505

Final- 901, 747, 40, 78 (Gavin Fegan), 505

ON TOUR

For the second week running Ian Thompson Jnr (901), showed up in Scotland, at the racewall, Cowdenbeath. The Northern Ireland Superstar had a good night, finishing third in his  first heat, third in his second heat, eighth in the final, and second in the Grand National. Once again thanks to Kevin McQueen for these results, Click here to visit his Racewall website. Perhaps the strangest thing about his appearence is that he was able to get a boat over, after all it was announced at Nutts Corner on Wednesday night that the Irish Open was cancelled because the overseas drivers could not get boats booked.

Nutts Corner- 6/6/01(9 cars)

Following last weeks best turnout of 15, this week was Nutts Corners worst turnout of the season. The new grading came into effect, seeing Darren McKinstry drop to Blue, Colin McCreedy rise to yellow and Trevor Moore rise to red. Another point to note that is, Ronald Scott (10) made his first appearence of the season, in what looked to be a new car. All three races where won by Ian Thompson Jnr in a very uneventful night.

Heat 1- 901 (Ian Thompson Jnr), 251 (Jeff Minish), 998 (Graham Fegan), 78 (Gavin Fegan), 71 (Trevor Moore)

Heat 2- 901, 747 (Darren McKinstry), 998, 78, 69 (Colin McCreedy)

Final- 901, 747, 71, 998, 251

ON TOUR

On Saturday 2nd June, 901 Ian Thompson Jnr raced a Cowdenbeath. Ian picked up a 4th in his heat.

Thanks to Kevin McQueen who runs a Cowdenbeath website, for this information.

Nutts Corner 30/5/01 (15 cars)

The best car turnout of the season so far, and the first time I`ve seen five white roofs on a N.I track in a long time. According to the programme the re grading is next week, so that should stir things up a wee bit. A heat and final double for Ian Thompson Jnr, and a first heat win for 235 Stuart Strain.

Heat 1- 235 (Stuart Strain), 69 (Colin McCreedy), 71 (Trevor Moore), 998 (Graham Fegan), 251 (Jeff Minish)

Heat 2- 901 (Ian Thompson Jnr), 235, 40 (Raymond Percy), 747 (Darren McKinstry), 71

Final- 901, 747, 998, 251, 40

Nutts Corner 23/5/01 (12 cars)

Once again only a dozen cars turned out, but all credit to them it was close racing all the way, with pleanty of bumper work. Main point of note for the night was that 235 Stuart Strain for the first time that I can remember started the final from his correct roof grade (white), instead of the back, for his troubles he picked up a third place in the final and look capable of winning it for most of the race.

Heat 1- 71 (Trevor Moore), 69 (Colin McCreedy), 998 (Graham Fegan), 40 (Raymond Percy), 901 (Ian Thompson Jnr)

Heat 2- 71, 901, 69, 747 (Darren McKinstry), 998

Final- 901, 69, 235 (Stuart Strain), 71, 747

The F2s are back racing at Ballymena, I assume this means that the dispute over prize money has been sorted out. The next meeting at Ballymena for the F2s is on June 1st. I also assume that this means that the Irish Open Championship will go ahead at Ballymena on June 15th.

Ballymena 19/5/01 (9 cars)

Another low car turnout for Ballymena and not a lot to report on, the first win for 974 in heat 2, a heat 1 win for 901 Ian Thompson Jnr, and a Final win for 998 Graham Fegan.

Heat 1- 901 (Ian Thompson Jnr), 974 (???), 998 (Graham Fegan), 957 (Declan McFerran), 34 (Aidie Shaw)

Heat 2- 974, 957, 901, 998, 78 (Gavin Fegan)

Final- 998, 901, 957, 78, 34

Nutts Corner 16/5/01 (11 cars)

A lower turnout this week, possibly due to the Liverpool match. However the cars that did turn out put on a good show, with plenty of bumper work. The was notable in heat 2 and the final between Graham Fegan and Jason Winning, and in the Final between Darren McKinstry and Ian Thompson Jnr. Nice to see Darren back on the pace again after a bad spell at the start of the season. Another good night for the reigning Irish open Champion Trevor Moore, winning both heats and the final. The only other point to note was that the 1999 Irish Closed Champion Aidie Shaw made his first appearance of the season, with a fourth in heat 2 and a second in the final.

Heat 1- 71 (Trevor Moore), 901 (Ian Thompson Jnr), 78 (Gavin Fegan), 40 (Raymond Percy), 251 (Jeff Minish)

Heat 2- 71, 747 (Darren McKinstry), 251, 34 (Aidie Shaw), 901

Final- 71, 34, 78, 998 (Graham Fegan), 40

Nutts Corner 9/5/01(13 cars)

Another good nights racing at Nuts Corner, once again dry. Once again the man of the night was Colin McCreedy (69), who now looks certain to be starting as a yellow or blue roof within the next few weeks. Another interesting thing to note is that Jason Winning made his first appearance of the season. Winning has been one of the voted as one of the favourites to win the Irish Championship on my voting pole (see Homepage).

Heat 1- 69(Colin McCreedy), 71 (Trevor Moore), 901 (Ian Thompson Jnr), 998(Graham Fegan), 40(Raymond Percy)

Heat 2- 901, 998, 69, 251(Jeff Minish),40

Final- 69, 901, 40, 251, 13(Jason Winning)

ON TOUR

On Sunday 29th April, Ian Thompson Jnr (901), Darren McKinstry (747) and Raymond Percy (40), raced at Buxton in the Peak district. All three cars achieved top ten finishes. Thompson was 4th in his heat and 7th in the Final, Mckinstry was 9th in his heat, while Percy was 9th in the Consolation and 9th in the Grand National.

Nutts Corner 2/5/01 (12 cars)

Another good nights racing at Nutts Corner. The highlight of which was a heat 2 dice between Star graders Ian Thompson Jnr and Graham Fegan, Thompson coming off worst, who was spun,  causing the race to be brought under control for him to move his car. Thompson later went on to win the final. Colin McCreedy looks set to move up the grades, after two heat wins and a second place in the final.

Heat 1- 69 (Colin McCreedy), 71 (Trevor Moore), 901 (Ian Thompson Jnr), 40 (Raymond Percy), 998 (Graham Fegan)

Heat 2- 69, 998, 78 (Gavin Fegan), 40, 71

Final- 901, 69, 71,40, 998

Nutts Corner 25/4/01 (14 cars)

Heat 1- 71 (Trevor Moore), 998 (Graham Fegan), 40 (Raymond Percy),  69(Colin McCreedy), 901 (Ian Thompson Jnr)

Heat 2- 71, 69, 78 (Gavin Fegan), 251 (Jeff Minish), 901

Final- 78, 747 (Darren McKinstry),  998, 40, 251

Ballymena 16/4/01

One F2 was seen in the Pits, therefore there was no F2 race.

Rumours

It is rumoured that the reason for the final being called off at Ballymena was, because of a dispute over prize money. What I heard was the promoter was unwilling to pay the F2s prize money, saying that Ballymena was a Spedeworth track and therefore could not pay BriSCA formula prize money. This resulted in the F2s refusing to race the final, and the word is, the F2s will not be back at Ballymena or Aghadowey until the matter is resolved.

Ballymena 13/4/01 (6 cars)

It usually takes a few weeks before the F2`s over here come out of hibernation, as a result of this only 6 cars appeared at Ballymena.

Heat 1- 901(Ian Thompson Jnr), 998 (Graham Fegan), 78 (Gavin Fegan), 718 (George Fegan), 974, 278

Heat 2- 78, 998, 901, 718

The Final did not take place.
