Nutts Corner F2, boxing Day
Meeting 2002
Davy McCrory won the King of the Corner title at the boxing day meeting at
Nutts Corner.
In the First heat it was Geoff Martin who led them away, but after only
one lap the race was stopped after a car was broadside across the track on
the exit of one of the bends.
On the restart it was Martin who led them away again, with Hudson Foster
chasing him in second in only his second outing at the track. Further Down
the field Craig McConnell and Gary Beggs exchanged blows, with Beggs
getting the break. It wasn't long before Trevor Moore came through to take
the lead as Martin Spun in front of him, moving Foster back into second
and by this time Beggs was catching in third, up until pulling out with
handling problems. Moore went on to take an easy win, Foster spun on the
last bend and never crossed the line, this gifting second place to Craig
McConnell, with Ronald Scott the only other car to cross the line in
third.
Geoff Martin again led them away in the final, but it was Davy McCrory who
quickly came through from the reds, and it wasn't long before the former
Irish Champion had built up a half lap lead on the rest of the field, to
take a comfortable win in the feature race. Trevor Moore came through to
second, with Craig McConnell picking up third. Geoff Martin reversed
across the line to take fourth following a spin coming out of the last
bend, David Faloon was fifth with Ronald Scott fifth.

Ian Thompson went to Birmingham for the final F2 meeting of the season on
Saturday 9th of November. Picking up a 2nd place in heat 2.
NI @ Cowdie, Superbowl Meeting
At the final meeting at Cowdenbeath, five NI F2 cars where present, only
four of which raced, due to Graham Fegan's ban (see the forum).
Ian Thompson faired the best of the competing drivers, finishing third in
the champion of champions race, winning the final, and was going well in
the final, before misjudging a hit on John Fortune and subsequently
walling it.
Davy McCrory also went well picking up a third in his heat and a fourth in
the meeting final.
Geoff Martin was placed in his heat and in the consolation, but for some
reason was not lap scored, he was going well too.
Gary Beggs placed sixth in his heat, with Declan McFerran picking up
seventh.

Nutts Corner 9-10-02
Wednesday 9th of September seen the end of the season at Nutts
Corner, Declan McFerran took the two heat wins, but it was Gavin Fegan
driving Graham’s car who took the win in the final. Scottish driver Holly
Glen also made her Nutts Corner debut.
In the first heat it was Geoff Martin who led them off, and it wasn’t long
before Holly Glen moved into second place, before battling and fencing
David Faloon to bring out the yellow flags, on the restart it wasn’t long
before Declan McFerran moved into a lead he wasn’t to lose, with Gavin
Fegan coming through and into second up until the last bend when he pulled
off with a mechanical problem allowing Gary Beggs to take second with
Trevor Moore picking third, Mervyn Percy was fourth, Drew Stewert fifth,
with Holly Glen finishing eighth.
In heat two again it was Martin who made the early brake with Holly Glen
soon into second, but it was Declan McFerran who came through to take the
win from Gavin Fegan, with Geoff Martin and Gary Beggs fourth, after
Beggs had removed Trevor Moore from the proceedings by putting him in the
fence, Davy McCrory and Drew Stewert picked up fifth and sixth.
In the final it was Martin who made the most of his white top start to get
away from the pack, and again it was Holly Glen who soon slotted into
second, Declan McFerran was quickly gaining ground, before going out at
the bottom end. Further back Gavin Fegan got a break from the reds, where
Gary Beggs and Drew Stewert where exchanging blows. In the closing stages
Fegan got through to take the lead and the win, with Martin holding onto
second, Davy McCrory came through to third, but was then spun by Gary
Gratton, as Gratton tried to defend the place, briefly allowing Holly Glen
back up to third, Beggs soon took the third spot, with McCrory getting
back up to fourth and catching Beggs in the closing laps. Drew Stewert
finished of the season with a fifth place, Paddy McAtmney picked up sixth,
with Visitor Holly Glen seventh.

suspension problems in practice.

picking up second in the first, and Trevor Moore runner up in the other
two.

Posterholt 6-10-2002
It was the last 2002 meeting at the Posterholt track. 15 cars were
present. Jos op ‘t Roodt was back after injury sustained early in the
season, and he made the trip worthwhile. Changing weather condition forced
the drivers to make a good tyrechoice.
The first heat was run on a wet track. Apparently both Willie Peeters and
Paul Hermkens had their cars setup for a dry track as they struggled to
get their laps in. It was Marcus Storb who took the lead. Rob van Rengs
put the bumper in on Jan de Jong. Op ‘t Roodt was on the move and took
second. Op ‘ t Roodt took second with Erwin Peeters close behind. Storb
then spun out of the lead which put op ‘t Roodt in the lead. Erwin Peeters
had other ideas and forced his way into the lead and went on to take the
win.
Heat two was one of controversy, it all started with Danny Verelst putting
the car in the fence while warming up his tyres. He damaged his suspension
and was out of the race. Storb took the lead again. Both Erwin Peeters and
Willie Peeters were on a fast move from the back, when Wiel Hermkens hit
the homestraight fence hard and shed a wheel. The wheel got stuck under
the wheelprotection and the race carried on. Willie Peeters put Erwin
Peeters in the fence and much to his surprise received a black flag.
Peeters was in the lead and kept it going. Van Rengs and Paul Hermkens
were in a battle for third and when all seemed settled, Hermkens did a
last bender on van Rengs, which put them both wide. Hermkens took third.
Peeters was home first but the win was awarded to op ‘t Roodt who came
second. After the race Willie Peeters was called into racecontrol. Minutes
later Paul Hermkens was called for too. Apparantly racecontrol thought
Peeters had put Wiel Hermkens in the fence but after an explanation of
Paul that he did it himself, Peeters was reinstated as winner.
All 15 cars made it out for heat three and it was Theo Houtvast who took
the lead. Storb took over and van rengs got his own back but hitting
Hermkens wide. Erwin Peeters took second but Willie Peeters was coming up
fast. Erwin Peeters then let Willie Peeters through. Willie Peeters took
the lead soon afterwards. Wiel Hermkens and Geert- Jan Keyzer briefly
hooked together but both rejoined. Op ‘t Roodt closed on Erwin Peeters and
managed to take second. Willie Peeters won the race.

Heat 1: 52 Erwin Peeters- 67 Jos op ‘t Roodt- 228 Danny Verelst.

Nutts Corner 2/10/02
Trevor Moore took a heat and final double at Nutts Corner on Wednesday 2nd
of October.
David Falloon led them of in heat one, with Ted Holland almost instantly
moving into the lead driving the borrowed Adie Shaw car. It was Gavin
Fegan who came through the fastest from the back, using Graham Fegan’s
car, and it wasn’t long before he came through to take the lead and the
win, Trevor Moore came through to take second, with yellow grader Gary
Gratton holding onto third, Davy McCrory was fourth, with Declan McFerran
fifth, and Ted Holland holding on to sixth.
In the second heat it was Ted Holland who led them away, and held onto the
lead until the midway point of the race, before Gary Gratton came through,
but it was Moore this time that got the break from the reds, and it was
only a few laps before he took the lead from Gratton, Gratton tried to
come back at Moore, but to no avail. Gavin Fegan soon came through to take
second, but was unable to do anything about Moore, Gratton held on to take
third, with Colin McCready fourth, Ted Holland fifth and Craig McConnell
sixth.
In the Final Ted Holland led them off with Colin McCready second and Gary
Gratton third for the opening stages of the race, further back Gary Beggs
and Craig McConnell touched, the later suffering wheel damage and was
forced to pull off. Again it wasn’t long before Trevor Moore came through
from the back, closely followed by Gavin Fegan, Gary Beggs was also coming
through from the back, but was just unable to get passed Ted Holland to
take third, Colin McCready held on for fifth, with Gary Gratton picking up
sixth.

BriSCA F2 Venray 29-9-2002.
A good turnout of cars made the trip to Venray. Notable absentee was Toon
Schut, who is still recovering from injuries he sustained while racing an
F1 stock car on a fieldtrack. The good news is that he was at Venray as a
spectator. Paul Hermkens brought out his new car for the first time. It’s
the second Bite F2 chassis to make it out on track, Schut having the first
one. Father Wiel Hermkens, who was a stargrader in Superstocks in the late
seventies and early eighties, made his return to the ovals after an
absence of about 17 years in Paul’s old car. It didn’t take him long to
get adapted to the car, but it will take some time to adapt to the traffic
in an actual race. The format was a bit different now, because the F2’s
only got three races, a bit af a strange decision as they stole the show
at the speedweekend.
Heat 1 saw Izaak de Haas in the lead while Dirk Jakobs spun. Jan Bekkers
took over at the front and was followed by Andre v/d Elst who took second.
Meinte Drost took second but by this time Willie Peeters had already
worked his way up to 5th. Drost took the lead, while Peeters
continued his run up to the front by taking third. Peeters took the lead
and opened up a gap, while Roy Maessen was now making rapid progress. By
the time Maessen had made it to third he retired which promoted Martijn
Vowinkel into 3rd. Frank Lauff briefly hooked up with v/d Elst,
which left the latter stranded just outside the racingline. The waved
yellows came out to rescue the driver. After the restart Willie took the
lead and the win.
Bekkers took over at the front from de Haas as Geert- Jan Keyzer spun into
the backstraight fence. All other drivers avoided hgis car and Keyzer
rejoined just as Bekkers came by. Willie was already up there with the
frontrunners and went from 4th to 2nd in one move.
Meanwhile Sebastiaan Vowinkel spun along with Leon de Kevie. The latter
retired. W. Peeters took the lead. Further down Henk Peeters blasted
Maessen wide, who went fencewards, taking Keyzer with him. The waved
yellows came out, followed by the reds to end this race. W. Peeters taking
the win.
De Haas took the lead but it was once again Bekkers who took over. W.
Peeters took 5th when mayhem started. Henk Peeters hit the turn
4 fence, courtesy of Lauff. Henk retired. Then Rob van Rengs and Danny
Verelst both spun but while Verelst could rejoin, van Rengs lost a wheel,
which brought out the waved yellows. By the time the yellows came out W.
Peeters was in the lead and he continued to lead after the restart. M.
Vowinkel spun Bekkers but got himself into trouble and they both went
fencewards, where the unlucky Guido van Walraven got caught by both cars
and clattered in the fence. The waved yellows came out again. W. Peeters
seemed to miss the restart and lost several places. He slotted in behind
Lauff and pushed him fencewards. While trying to regain control, Lauff got
caught up in a coming together by two other drivers and hit the
homestraight fence. Lauff had to retire. While all this was going on, S.
Vowinkel spun his car on the homestraight and it was a miracle no one
piled in. W. Peeters took the lead and the win.

Top two Banned
Following their antics at Ballymena, when Ian Thompson “followed” George
Fegan in and Graham Fegan tried to drive over Ian Thompson on the infield,
the two drivers have received bans from the Ballymena promoter. Ian
Thompson will be banned for two weeks, and Graham Fegan is banned for the
remainder of the season.
Ballymena F2 Track Championship 27/9/02
Davy McCrory took the Ballymena track championship on Friday 27th
of September.
Nine cars took to the grid for the track championship, with Gavin Fegan
and Jason Winning sharing the front row. In the first bend Graham Fegan
pushed the lead to wide and got through to take the lead, with Davy
McCrory coming through to take second spot, Gavin Fegan and Ian Thompson
went to the back of the field, with Gavin soon pulling off and Thompson
quickly coming back through the pack. Up front Graham Fegan had built up a
comfortable lead, with McCrory chasing in second, Jeff Minnish and George
Fegan had a brief scrap for third before Minnish got through, Ian Thompson
quickly closed up on George Fegan, and walled him, taking both himself and
George Fegan out of the race. Graham Fegan soon pulled off with mechanical
problems, and looked to make an attempt to run over Ian Thompson who was
standing in the middle of the track. McCrory therefore was handed the lead
and the win, with Jeff Minnish coming in second, Jason Winning third,
Declan McFerran fourth and Paddy McAtamney the only other finisher in
fifth.
The two heats were uneventful, with Decaln McFerran taking two lights to
flag wins from the blue grad in the absence of any whites or yellow, Jeff
Minnish took a second in heat one and a third in heat two, with Gavin
Fegan taking third in heat one, and Graham Fegan taking second in heat
two. Track

Nutts Corner 25/9/02
Graham Fegan took his seventh Nutts Corner Final in as many weeks on
Wednesday 25th, following two heat wins by Declan McFerran.
It was David Falloon who led the cars away in heat one, with Gary Gratton
soon coming through from the yellows to take the lead, but it was Declan
McFerran driving the borrowed Darren McKinstry car who came through to
take the lead and comfortable win, Graham Fegan got through to second,
with Gavin Fegan third, Colin McCready and Trevor Moore both got passed
Gratton in the closing stages to take, third fourth and fifth
respectively.
Once again in heat two it was David Falloon who led them away, Geoff
Martin in his first Nutts Corner outing in the ex Pat Casey car moved
quickly into the lead, it wasn’t long before Colin McCready was in on the
action and challenging for the lead, pushing Martin wide, this left the
door open for Declan McFerran to move through and into the lead. Further
down the field Gavin and Graham Fegan exchanged blows, up until Gavin put
David Falloon in the fence bringing out the yellow flags. McFerran led
them off on the restart and held onto the lead to take the win from Gavin
Fegan, with Jeff Minnish picking up third, Graham Fegan coming home
fourth, Trevor Moore picked up fifth and Colin McCready held on to take
sixth.
It was Martin who led them off in the final, which was initially stopped
after Gavin Fegan put Paddy McAtmney in the fence. On the restart it
wasn’t long before McFerran made his way through again to take the lead,
further down the field Graham Fegan was coming through fast, while Gavin
Fegan and Jeff Minnish were doing battle. It wasn’t long before Graham
Fegan caught McFerran and challenged for the lead, and in the closing laps
took the lead and the win from McFerran, Gavin Fegan picked up third,
after Jeff Minnish spun, with Trevor Moore finishing fourth, Craig
McConnell picked up fifth with Meryn Percy sixth.

Nutts Corner 18/9/02, F2 Irish Closed
Championship
Graham Fegan continued his Nutts Corner domination by winning the Irish
Open Championship on Wednesday 18th of September.
Twenty one cars lined up for one of the biggest F2 races of the Northern
Ireland calendar, with Ian Thompson using the borrowed Adie Shaw car and
Gavin Fegan on the first row, Graham Fegan and Craig McConnell on row two
and the defending champion Darren McKinstry on row three. On the first
start it was Ian Thompson who got a clean break to get a clear run through
turn one, but further back havoc broke out, and amongst the casualties
Davy McCrory and Ronald Scott went through the fence. The race was then
stopped while McCrory’s car was removed having broken the fence post,
however Ronald Scott’s car was left in the fence, for some reason. On the
restart Thompson once again got a fast start, but Gavin Fegan was quick
enough into the first bend to get a hit in on Thompson pushing him out
wide, and allowing half the field through, on the exit to the bend Ian
drove the car on the brakes, Gavin pushed Ian the length of the straight
and into the fence, taking both drivers out of the race, and bringing the
race its second stoppage. With the front two out of the road, it was
Graham Fegan who led them off, and quickly got away from the pack to build
up a comfortable lead, with Jeff Minnish getting through into second and
Darren McKinstry third. The race was brought under yellow flags with only
a handful of laps to go, after George Fegan drove into Adie Shaw on the
back straight and Gary Gratton and Drew Stewert tangled on the infield.
Only eight cars restarted with Graham Fegan holding on for a comfortable
win, with Jeff Minnish picking up second, the outgoing champion Darren
McKinstry finished third after seeing of the late efforts of Trevor Moore
who picked up fourth, Jason Winning had a quiet race to pick up fifth,
Gary McFerran finished sixth following a long battle with Mervyn Percy who
later pulled off, and David Falloon was the only other finisher in
seventh.
Due to the championship race, the Formula two’s only got one heat which
eleven cars came out for. David Falloon led them off from the white grade,
with the yellows of Gary Gratton and Colin McCready coming through to
relegate Falloon to third, it wasn’t long before George Fegan was through
from the blue grade to take second, but it was Graham Fegan who came
through from the back to take the lead and the win, George spun in the
closing laps, allowing Gratton to take a comfortable victory from Mervyn
Percy, Jeff Minnish, Colin McCready and Jason Winning picking up sixth.

Nutts Corner F2 (11/9/02)
Graham Fegan enjoyed another successful night at Nutts Corner on Wednesday
11th of September picking up a heat and final win, while Gavin
and George Fegan filled the second and third places each time.
Seventeen cars made it out for heat one, including the debut of stock rod
racer Hudson Foster, making it one of the largest turnouts of the season
so far. David Falloon led them away, but it wasn’t long before Gary
Gratton came through from the red grade to take the lead. George Fegan
came through from the blue grade to take the lead, with Graham Fegan
moving into second. The race was brought under caution after David Falloon
went into the fence with a little help from Trevor Moore at one and, and
Craig McConnell spun at the other. On the restart Gavin Fegan got passed
Graham to take second and in the closing laps got through past George to
take the lead, but despite being the first across the line was docked two
places for an infringement, handing the win to George Fegan, Graham Fegan
picked up second, with Gavin having to settle for third, Paddy McAtmeny
was placed fourth with Trevor Moore fifth and Jason Winning sixth.
With Falloon missing from heat two, it was the yellows of Gary Gratton and
Colin McCready who led them off, Gratton getting the lead, but again it
wasn’t long before George Fegan was on the scene to challenge for the
lead, but it was Graham Fegan who got passed the battling duo to take the
lead and a comfortable win, Gavin Fegan came thorugh to take second, with
George Fegan finishing third, ahead of Trevor Moore, Gary Gratton and
Craig McConnell. Adie Shaw and Paddy McAtmney had being going well, but
tangled and end up locked together in the centre.
In the final it was Colin McCready who led them away,, with Gratton soon
getting into the lead. A first bend pile up put an end to several red tops
races, including Gary Beggs and Trevor Moore. It wasn’t long before George
Fegan moved through and into the lead, but again it was Graham who was
setting the pace, and quickly came through to take the lead and the win,
Gavin Fegan came through into second, George Fegan picked up third, Adie
Shaw finished fourth with Gary McFerran fifth and Craig McConnell rounding
up the top six. Darren McKinstry had came through early on, but pulled out
with a mechanical failure.

Murray takes
production car Irish Championship
William Murray took the win in the Nutts Corner production car Irish
closed championship on Wednesday 11th of September.
Just eleven cars lined up for the big event, with Clive Wilson and William
Murray on the front row.
It was Murray who got the jump at the start, getting round the outside of
Wilson and out of trouble, as a pile up in second corner took Colin Blake
and Andrew Stewert out of the race. One lap later at the other end, Mark
McKinstry fenced Mervyn Thursby and Drew Pritchard, taking the later out
of the race.
Up front Murray just extended his lead and never looked like being in any
danger of loosing it, Clive Wilson took a comfortable second, with Paul
Nesbitt getting third having recovered from loosing several places on the
first lap, Mark McKinstry picked up fourth, Davy McDowell was placed
fifth, with Mervyn Thursby recovering to take sixth.

Posterholt 8-9-2002.
It was like a cold shower coming back from Cowdenbeath and seeing a grand
total of 10?? F2’s in the Posterholt pits. Except from heat 1 the races
were boring to watch and it’s time something gets done to get more drivers
to the track. Of course the ones present tried to put up a good show and
deserve all credit for it.
Theo Houtvast took the lead in heat one but was soon overhauled by Marcel
Vermeulen. Danny Verelst took over at the front. Peter Schreurs had closed
in on Jan de Jong and put the bumper in. De Jong hit Vermeulen who came to
a standstill against the turn 4 fence, which ended his race. Toon Schut
was already up to third as it went wrong for Adrie Schoenmakers. He
climbed all over de Jong and rolled. The reds came out to get the cars of
the track. After the restart, de Jong took the lead. Verelst got stuck on
Schreurs and had to retire with a flat RF tyre. Schut closed the gap to de
Jong and took the lead and te win.
All 10 cars were out for heat 2, which saw Schoenmakers out without an
aerofoil on the car. It was Houtvast again in the lead but he was soon
overhauled by the rest of the field. De Jong took the lead from Vermeulen,
who then spun his car onto the infield. Schreurs took over at the front.
Dchut was again carving through the field and got in the lead well before
the lapboards were out. Schoenmakers took second and van Rengs took third
on the last lap. Schreurs however put van Rengs wide in the last bend to
take third. Schut taking the win.
Only 9 cars out for heat 3 and it was Schut who was flying again. Verelst
had a big gap on him but Schut managed to reel him in and take win number
three.

with only two laps to go, but then spun out, giving third to Gary McFerran,
Jeff Minish picked up fourth following an early dice with Craig McConnell,
Gavin Fegan came home fifth driving George Fegan’s HCD car, and McConnell
picked up sixth.
The second heat was stopped after a few laps when Craig McConnell and Gary
Beggs tangled on the entrance to the corner blocking the track. On the
restart Faloon held the early lead before Gratton once again came through.
Graham Feghan and Trevor Moore came through the pack to take up second and
third as the race was brought under control when Ronald Scott and Paddy
McAtmney tangled. On the restart Graham Fegan moved straight through and
into the lead, but with only a handful of laps to go pulled off with
mechanical failure, giving the win to Trevor Moore, Gavin Fegan picked up
second, with Davy McCrory after a battle with McConnell, who picked up
fourth, with Adie Shaw placing fifth on a rare Nutts Corner appearance,
Gratton held on to take sixth.
In the Final it was Faloon, Gratton and McFerran who made the early
running, while red graders Adie Shaw and Drew Stewert tangled at the back
of the field. It wasn’t long before Graham Fegan came through to take the
lead and another final win, with Trevor Moore coming through to take
second, Gary Gratton spun out allowing Gavin Fegan to take an easy third,
with Paddy McAtmney holding on to take fourth, Craig McConnell picked up
fifth following another battle with Davy McCrory, while Blue grader Jason

Junior Stock Irish Championship
Just eight cars took to the grid for the Nutts Corner Junior stock Irish
Championship on Wednesday 4th of September.
Robert Logan got the better start off the front row, but it was Glenn
McDowell who held the inside line to take the lead into the first bend,
chaos broke out behind, as Laura Mohan and Robert Johnston ended up going
across the middle before taking to the track again. As the cars came down
the start finish straight Laura Mohan sideswiped Mark Matchett who’s car
rolled after hitting the wall, the race was stopped with Matchett being
forced to retire, and Mohan being disqualified from the proceedings.
Six cars took the grid for the restart, this time Glenn McDowell got a
clean break to rake a lights to flag victory, Robert McDowell never got
close enough to put in a challenge, Francie Smilie collided with Robert
Johnston in the first bend, taking the latter out of the race, while
Smilie went on to pick up third after catching and passing Sarah Barrett
in the closing stages.

Nutts Corner 28/8/02
On Wednesday 28th of August Graham Fegan won both heats and the
final on his way to making it three finals out of three at Nutts Corner.
There was a low turn out as some drivers opted to save their cars for the
world final meeting at Cowdenbeath.
Only eight cars lined up for heat one, with Gary Gratton and David Faloon
leading them away, Gratton took and held the lead up until the last lap,
when red Graham Fegan came though to take the win, Gratton held on for
second, with Gavin Fegan taking third away from Trevor Moore in the last
bend, Faloon was fifth, with Gary McFerran sixth.
A few more cars made it out for heat two, and again it was Gratton and
Faloon who lead them away, Gratton held the early lead, until yellow
grader Drew Stewert came through to take a brief lead, before Graham Fegan
moved through to take the win, Stewert held on for second, Gavin Fegan
took third, with Ian Thompson taking Gratton on the last bend for fourth,
with Gary McFerran fifth and Jason Winning sixth.
Gary Gratton once again led them off in the final, and again it was
Stewert who came through to take the lead, before Graham Fegan came
through to take the lead and the win in the closing stages, Ian Thompson
managed to get up to second, with Stewert holding on to third, from Gavin
Fegan, Trevor Moore and Gary McFerran sixth.

Venray
World Cup.
Saturday 17-8.
Jan de Jong led Roy Slocombe in heat 1. Slocombe spun out of contention
when the bumpers went in. Paul Hermkens took the lead with Michel van
Haarlem in second. Daz Kitson was putting the bumper in on all that came
up in front of him. Martijn Vowinkel took second and went after Hermkens
to release him from the lead. Hermkens then went into the fence with Tony
Roots. Chris Roots took second as Leon de Kevie spun after he blew a tyre.
The waved yellows came out to release him from his car. After the restart
Vowinkel took the lead. In the meantime Kitson closed on Chris Roots.
Kitson put Roots wide for second but ran out of laps to reel in Vowinkel.
Heat two saw Toon Schut and Kitson out on track together for the first
time that night. It was Wayne Helliwell who took the lead with Dave
Muckian in second. Van Haarlem put Muckian wide to take second but from
behind Schut and Kitson were flying. Roy Perry got put in the home
straight fence by Geert- Jan Keyzer, adding to the bad luck Perry had at
Posterholt. There was called for a caution and after the restart it was
Helliwell in the lead again. Kitson was already up to third and took
second from van Haarlem. Kitson then took the lead and started pulling
away. Schut took third and second and set off for Kitson. He slowly closed
on Kitson and with three to go he put Kitson wide and took the lead.
Kitson tried to hit Schut but couldn’t get near enough. Schut took the
win.
Come heat three it was Rini v/d Water who took the lead but went wide
allowing Helliwell to take over. Willie Peeters delivered a massive hit to
Andre v/d Elst, which saw v/d Elst car getting parked on top of the
Peeters car. It took nearly 10 minutes to get both cars unhooked before
there was a restart. Helliwell took the lead after the restart with Jos de
Beer in second. Chris Roots took third and put de Beer wide to take
second. He then went on to take the lead. Hermkens took second from
Helliwell, who in turn tried to get Hermkens wide. Martijn Vowinkel went
over the bonnet of Dirk Jakobs. Schut was closing on Roots as Cor Cuppens
engine let go. Schut took the lead while Gary Ellis took 5th
but had to retire soon afterwards. Sebastiaan Vowinkel put Helliwell wide
for 5th but he had no luck either as he had to retire too.
Schut taking his second win of the day.
Heat four saw Muckian in the lead but he was soon overhauled by van
Haarlem. Paul Hermkens took second. Chris Roots was already up in 5th
and took third in one move. Hermkens went wide which allowed Roots to take
second. Roots chased van Haarlem and took the lead and the win.
Heat five saw a jumpstart from the stargrade. Helliwell took the lead as
Perry’s bad luck continued. Something broke on the steering of the car and
while he spun someone knocked a wheel off. The waved yellows came out.
Helliwell retired from the restart as Dirk Jakobs took the lead. Schut and
Kitson were flying again. Kitson tried a big lunge a Schut but put himself
into the fence after which he continued. Schut took the lead and had
Verelst in second. Kitson took second after which Verelst tried to put him
wide but to no effect. Schut continued to make it three out of three.
Chris Roots and Daz Kitson scored equal points on the night but because of
his race win Roots got to start from inside row three.
Sunday 18-8.
After a parade
lap it was time for the big race. Schut and Martijn Vowinkel shared row
one with Henk Peeters and Roy Maessen on row two. Behind them it was Chris
Roots and Daz Kitson. When the green came out it was Schut who shot into
the lead with Vowinkel in second. Roots lost several places and thumped
Frank Lauff wide. Tony Roots and Muckian clashed which brought out the
waved yellows for the first time. The restart was a hectic one. Someone
down the field jumped the start and the startingmarshall put the red flag
out, but on seconf thought he let them go on. Schut was in the lead again.
Lauff put Roy Maessen wide but it was Chris Roots who made the most of it,
getting passed both of them. Maessen tried to put Lauff wide but missed as
Cees van Ruler hit the fance very hard. The waved yellows came out for a
second time. It was Schut who shot into the lead once again on the restart
with Vowinkel in second. It took Kitson a few laps to take second and from
thereon he slowly started to reel in Schut. Schut was habing some problems
with his rear tyres which allowed Kitson to close even further. With one
to go it was quite obvious Kitson would go for the last bender. With a
lunge from far back he went for Schut. He just missed him and put himself
into the fence, losing a wheel. Schut took the win. While Kitson received
medical attention, Schut celebrated his victory with donuts.
Everybody was waiting for Kitson while they were lining up heat two. It
took a while but he came out, much to the approval of the spectators which
started to applaud. Helliwell took the lead. Further down the field Kitson
had found a new mate in Lauff and they started a nice ding dong battle.
The bumpers went in and Lauff wasn’t impressed by Kitsons efforts to get
him wide. He thumped Kitson wide on the next bend. It was Kitsons turn
again after this, but again Lauff put Kitson wide and after overtaking him
he started to pull away. Schut was flying again and took second from Chris
Roots. He then took first from Meinte Drost. Roots managed to get second
before the chequered came out. Schut taking his 5th win in as
many races.
Jan Bekkers took the lead in heat three but was soon released by v/d
Water. Stuart Rolph put the bumper in on Schut but didn’t get him wide
enough. In the meantime Bekkers was back in the lead. Drost took the lead
with van rengs in second. A few cars went into the fence but were able to
continue while Lauff came to a halt but got hi car fired up again. Peter
Schreurs was putting oil on the track which resulted in a caution and
Schreurs retiring from the race. After the restart it was Drost in the
lead, while Schut outsmarted Kitson to take second. Schut closed on Drost
and took the lead and the win. Helliwell had his moment when he spun his
new mate Vowinkel in turn four.

Nutts Corner 14/8/02
Graham Fegan took a heat and final double following another heat win for
Trevor Moore as the red tops dominated at Nutts Corner on 14th
of August.
In the first heat it was David Faloon who led them away, but it wasn’t
long before Drew Stewert came through to take the lead. It was Gavin Fegan
who made the break from the reds, and was quickly up to third behind
Stewert and Colin McCready, before clashing with McCready while trying to
get past, running the car up the wall and pulling the wheel guard out
resulting in a black flag. This allowed Trevor Moore to come through to
second and then get passed Stewert to take the lead. A few laps later
Stewert lost a wheel, bringing out the yellow flags, with Darren McKinstry
in second and Ian Thompson in third. Moore got the jump when the green
went down, quickly getting away from McKinstry and Thompson, who exchanged
blows and places for a few laps, and on the last bend Craig McConnell came
from fourth to pass the two of them to pick up second, with Thompson
third, McKinstry fourth, Gary Beggs fifth and Ronald Scott picking up
sixth.
Faloon led them off again in heat two, but again it wasn’t long before
Stewert got through into the lead. Faloon soon went out of the race,
allowing Jason Winning to move into second, before Graham Fegan came
through from the back, to go right through to the lead, Trevor Moore
picked up second, with McKinstry taking third place, Stewert held on to
take fifth ahead of Thompson and Gavin Fegan.
In the final Faloon led them off, with Stewert soon coming through to take
the lead, but it was Graham Fegan again who was setting the pace further
back, quickly moving up and into second with Jason Winning third and
Darren McKinstry fourth. The race was stopped around mid distance when
McKinstry went out, thus allowing the field to close up. On the restart
Graham Fegan was quick to take the lead, Thomspn came through to finish
second, having never looked like catching Fegan, Trevor Moore picked up
third, with Gavin Fegan fourth, Stewert fifth and Gary Beggs the last
finisher in sixth.

Nutts Corner 7/8/02 F2
Trevor Moore picked up a hat trick of wins at Nutts Corner on the 7th
of August.
Gary Gratton led the cars away in the first heat, with Drew Stewert in
second, while the blues of Jason Winning and Colin McCreedy did battle for
third. Gratton spun allowing the rest of the pack to get through, before
the race was brought under caution when Darren McKinstry put Craig
McConnel in the fence, the later was able to rejoin the race, but the
collision left McKinstry with a damaged rear wheel. On the retstart Jason
Winning quickly moved through and into the lead, and a few bends later a
hard hit from Ian Thompson on Gavin Fegan caused chaos putting Stewert
out, and allowing Trevore Moore to get away into second, before moving on
to take the lead and the win, Winning finished second, with Ian Thompson
third, Gavin Fegan fourth, Colin McCreedy fifth and Craig McConnel
recovered to take sixth.
In the second heat it was again Gary Gratton who led them away with Jason
Winning and Colin McCreedy battling for second, but again it was Moore who
got the break from the reds. In the closing Laps Winning pulled off with
engine problems as he was catching Gratton, Moore came through to take the
lead, and Ian Thompson came through to second, Gratton held on to third,
while Gavin Fegan picked up fourth, with Davy McCrory fifth.
As with the heats, it was Gratton who led them off in the final, but it
wasn’t long before Stewert caught up with him, but as rain started to fall
Stewert was struggling with getting passed. In the closing laps the two
cars briefly tangled allowing Jason Wining to take the lead, but it wasn’t
long before Moor came through to take the lead, Drew Stewert picked up
second, with Gavin Fegan third, Ian Thompson fouth, Davy McCrory fifth and
Jason Winning picked up fifth.

NEWSFLASH!!!!!!
A NI F2 driver is to become the first stockcar driver since Derek Warrick
to be given a drive in a Formula 1. Following his display in the final,
Ferrari have showed interest in signing him up as number 2 driver to
Schumacher for the 2003 season.
A spokesman from Ferrari had the following to say "here at Ferrari we do
not race as two individual drivers, we race as a team, for the team. He
has clearly shown some excellent team qualities, and since he doesn't use
the bumper anyway, he will fit in well in Formula 1"
CAN ANYONE NAME THAT DRIVER?????
Nutts
Corner F2 - 31/7/02
Gary Gratton took two heat wins, and Ian Thompson was gifted a
controversial final win as stockcar racing returned to a wet Nutts Corner
after the July break.
In the first heat it was Gratton who lead lights to flag, Paddy McAtmney
was in second up until Davy McCrory and Minish spun, leaving McCrory’s car
in a dangerous position and the race was brought under caution. On the
restart Darren McKinstry came through into second, Jason Winning got
third, following a pile up that took Thompson, McAtamney and Trevor Moore
out of the race, Craig McConnel picked up fourth from his first race
starting as a superstar.
Gratton again took a lights to flag win in heat two, although the action
came from a race long battle between Darren McKinstry and Graham Fegan,
who exchanged blows and places, with Fegan eventually getting second on
the line, McKinstry picked up third, with Thompson placed fourth, and
McAtmney fifth.
Again it was Gary Gratton who led them away in the final, but it wasn’t
long before Drew Stewert took the lead, further back there was battles
between Davy McCrory and Craig McConnel and again Graham Fegan and Darren
McKinstry. Stewert was leading by a country mile, up until Gary Gratton
spun bringing out the yellow flags. On the restart Graham Fegan climbed
over backmarker Faloon putting him out of the race, Thomspon got through
to second within a few laps, but didn’t lok like catching Stewert, Darren
McKinstry was lying third and Gary Beggs was well up, from his first
outing as a red roof. That was the way things stood up until the cars acme
out of the last bend, when Stewert (driving a borrowed Ian Thompson car)
slowed off and let Ian Thompson passed to take the victory, in a moment
that can only be compared to Formula one racing, maybe Mr Schumacher was
present looking for a team mate for 2003, but only Stewert will know the
answer to that one,

NI @
the Scottish Championship
Gary Beggs. Graham Fegan, and Graham Moore took part in the Scottish
Championship meeting at Cowdenbeath. Graham Fegan qualified for the final
through his heat, and Gary got into the final from the consolation. Beggs
was the only finisher in the big race, however Fegan at one stage was in
third place but in the process of taking the two cars in front of him, put
all three cars on their sides and out of the race, Gary finished 9th, and
went on to place 8th in the GN
NI on Shale, @ the Skegness UK
speedweekend.
On Saturday and Sunday 13th and 14th of July, five Northern Ireland cars
went to the UK speedweekend at Skegness. Only two of the five had previous
shale experience. Gavin Fegan, Darren McKintsy, Graham Fegan and Gary
Beggs, all picked up top ten places over the weekend, with Declan McFerran
in brother Gary's car the only one who didn't. To their credit they all
stuck at it, when many shale regulars had pulled off, packed up and gone
home. Gavin Fegan and Darren McKinstry were the only two who made the
feature race, Darren McKinstry pulled off early on, and Gavin Fegan had to
be put off, after doing several laps with a flat tyre
Congratulations to Davy McCall on
winning the National Hot rod World Championship at Ipswich on Sunday 14th
July. Keith Martin was second in the big race.
Thompson takes English Hat Trick
Congratulations to Ian Thompson on taking both heat wins and the Final

Ballymena 5/7/02
Ex Irish Champion Davy McCrory returned to winning ways at Ballymena
on Friday 5th July, by taking the win in the final.
In the first heat it was Craig McConnell who set the early pace, before
fellow yellow grade driver Drew Stewert moved through to take the lead,
Paddy McAtmney soon move through into, before blue grader Jason Winning
took the place, in the closing stages Davy McCrory moved up into second,
with Gavin Fegan coming through to finish third, Winning forth, Ian
Thompson picked up fifth, with McAtmney relegated to sixth.
In heat two again it was McConnell who took an early lead, with his first
challenge coming from Jason Winning, Davy McCrory soon came through to
take second, before mechanical failure seen him sidelined. Winning moved
back into second and was soon challenging for the lead, before the two
cars tangles, allowing Gavin Fegan through into the lead and taking
Winning out of the race, Ian Thompson eventually came through to take
second, McConnell recovered to third, Drew Stewert picked up fourth, with
Trevor Moore getting the better of a dice with Jeff Minnish to take sixth.
The final had to be stopped after only a few laps when Craig McConnell and
Ronald Scott tangled on the back straight. On the restart it was Drew
Stewert who got lead them away, Paddy McAtmney sat in second for about
half the race, but it was Davy McCrory and Gavin Fegan who where the men
to watch, and it wasn’t long before McCrory came through to take the lead,
Gavin Fegan came through to take second, with Drew Stewert holding onto
third, Ian Thompson picked up fourth with McAtmney fifth, and Jeff Minnish
rounding off the top six. The win is McCrory’s first sine he was first
over the line in the 2000 Irish Closed Championship.

Nutts Corner Results 3/7/02
Darren
McKinstry took his first final win of the season at Nutts Corner on
Wednesday 3rd of July.
In the first heat it was Gary Gratton that led them away, Craig McConnell,
Drew Stewert and Paddy McAtmney dicing for second, McConnell soon spun and
Stewert got the break and took the lead, Jason Winning came through from
the blue grade to take second, with Darren McKinstry taking third, after
Ian Thompson pulled off following a spin, Davy McCrory picked up fourth,
with McAtmney fifth and Trevor Moore picking up sixth place.
Again in heat two it was Gratton who made the early running, but it wasn’t
long before Stewert got the jump from the yellows and came through to take
the lead, Ian Thompson later moved through from the back to take the win,
with Stewert slipping back into second place, with Darren McKinstry
picking up another third place, Davy McCrory fourth, Jason Winning fifth
and Craig McConnell picking up sixth
In the final the action came from further down the field, again it was
Gratton who led them off, with Stewert quickly moving into the lead, but
further back Ian Thompson and Darren McKinstry exchanged a few hits,
before McKinstry hit Mervyn Percy in an attempt to get Thompson, Percy’s
car lost a wheel and the race was brough under yellows, with Thompson and
McKinstry sitting in fifth and sixth. On the restart Stewert got a clean
break, but within a lap Thompson had put McAtmney in the fence leaving the
car in a dangerous position and again the yellow flags cane out. This left
Stewert in the lead with McConnell in second, Thompson third and McKinstry
fourth. It was only a few laps before Thompson hit the front, but almost
immediately the car died, and his race was over, Stewert regained the
lead, but after a few hard hits from McKinstry was soon put back to
second, Davy McCrory came through to finish third, Jason Winning was
fourth, with Craig McConnell fifth and Trevor Moore picking up sixth

Toon Schut wins F2 Euro
On Sunday 30/6/02 dutch driver Toon Schut won the F2 European
championship at Northampton.
Sadly only one Northern Ireland car made the trip across, Graham Fegan,
however he did manage to finish the big race, to become the first Northern
Ireland finisher since Jason Winning in 1999, if I'm not mistaken.
Graham was unlucky to qualify for the meeting final on the Saturday night,
finishing just one place away in both his heat and his consolation race.
He then went on to pick up a second place in his heat on the Sunday,
behind Englishman Andy Maynard.
Several other NI drivers were seen at Northampton, watching the racing,
just like the wf Gavin, eh? (joke)
John Lund took the BriSCA F1 European championship,
despite a huge last bend hit from Paul Harrison, who finished second with
two puntures
Nutts Corner 26/6/02, F2
In the absence of any Fegan cars, Ian Thompson took a heat and final
double at Nutts corner, on Wednesday 26th June.
The first race was led away by Gary Gratton, but it wasn’t long before,
Craig McConnell moved through to take the lead. Further back Thompson
quickly came through the reds, eventually taking second place, from Jason
winning in third, Darren McKinstry in fourth, and Drew Stewert in fifth.
Heat two was once again led away by Gary Gratton, with the two yellow
roofs McConnell and Stewert, catching and passing him within the first few
laps, McConnell led for a brief spell before Drew Stewert got the better
of him and took the lead, but the pair had held each other up allowing
Thompson to catch and pass the two of them, further back Trevor Moore and
Darren McKinstry tangled with both drivers losing time. Thompson took the
win, from Stewert, McConnell third, Jeff Minish came home fourth with Davy
McCrory picking up fifth and Darren McKinstry recovering to pick up sixth.
In the final, Gary Gratton led the cars off again, but this time it was
Drew Stewert who moved into the lead after making the break from
McConnell. Thompson again was quick to come from the back, and it wasn’t
long before he came through inot the lead, much helped by a few drivers
driving out of his way to let him past (you know who you are), Stewert
held on to second, with Jason Winning picking up third, Darren McKinstry
finished fourth after a big hit on Craig McConnell, with Davy McCrory
finishing fifth after a long battle with Jeff Minish who picked up sixth.

FII Irish Open Championship 2002,
Ballymena 21/6
On Friday 21st June Ballymena raceway hosted the FII Irish
open championship, and the meeting included several overseas drivers
including Daz Kitson, Barry Goldin, Bill Batten and Gordon Moodie to name
a few.
All the cars went in each heat, with a mass start and a draw for positions
in heat one, and positions reversed for heat two. It was Stuart Kelly who
drew pole in the first heat, with Daz Ktson starting inside row two.
Kitson quickly moved into the lead, but as rain fell mid race Kelly got
back into the lead, and began to pull away from the World champion,
shortly after Craig McConnell and Trevor Moore mounted an unsuccessful
challenge for second. As the track started to dry out Kitson got faster
and faster, and it wasn’t long before he was right behind Kelly, but it
was the last lap before he pushed the Scottish driver far enough wide to
get past, Kelly mounted a last bend hit on the world champion, but spun
the car in the process, allowing Gavin Fegan through to finish second,
Gordon Moodie through to pick up third and Graham Kelly fourth.
In the second heat it was Jeff Minish who held an early lead from pole,
with Barry Goldin and Gordon Moodie soon closing him down. Further back
Bill Batten was being held up by Ian Thompson, eventually getting past, a
few laps later Gavin Fegan caught up on Ian Thompson and pushed him wide
into the wall, bringing out the yellow flags. By this stage Goldin had
taken the lead, and on the restart only built on that lead, Jeff Minish
held on to take second despite a last bend challenge from Graham Kelly,
while Bill Batten picked up fourth.
Daz Kitson and Gordon Moodie took the front row for the championship race,
with Gavin Fegan and Graham Kelly behind them and Barry Goldin and Darren
McKinstry on row three. As soon as the flag went down Gavin Fegan hit
Kitson, but didn’t push him wide enough to get past, bedlam broke out on
the home straight and the race had to be stopped and completely restarted.
On the restart Kitson immediately got away from the chasing pack, and
again bedlam broke out on the home straight as row four starter Jeff
Minish rolled bringing out the red flags, Bill Batten became the first of
the top drivers to fall, when he damaged a wheel in the accident. Once
again on the restart Kitson made a flying start that was never to be
challenged, a few laps into the race Gavin Fegan pulled off with
mechanical problems allowing Moodie to take hold of second, but it wasn’t
long before Goldin took second as Moodie slipped down the order. Further
back Ian Thompson was making a charge from a lowly starting position,
putting Gary McFerran in the fence on his way, but he would never get
close to the leaders. In the closing laps the action came from Bryn
Tootell and Stuart Kelly as they battled for third. With only a few laps
remaining Davy McCrory and Graham Kelly tangled bringing out the yellows
and the race was called a result, with Daz Kitson first, Barry Goldin
second, Stuart Kelly the top Scottish driver in third, Bryn Tootlel
despite his best efforts fourth, Gordon Moodie fifth and Craig McConnell
top local driver in sixth.
Just fourteen cars came out for the Grand National, and Kitson didn’t come
out to start from the front. Scottish white roof Roger Donaldson led them
away, but it wasn’t long before McConnell took the lead. Further down the
field Ian Thompson was pushing hard behind Bill Batten, eventually forcing
the veteran into a spin, as Batten tried to rejoin he clipped McConnell,
the cars tangled and the yellow flags came out again. This left Drew
Stewert in the lead from Stuart Kelly, with Ian Thompson on a charge
further back. On the restart Kelly quickly built up a lead with Ian
Thompson getting through to second, before Bill Batten, pushed Thompson
wide in the closing laps allowing Goldin through to take second, Graham
Kelly through to take third, Batten finishing fourth, and Thompson
finishing fifth ahead of Darren McKinstry.

Nutts
Croner 20/6/02 F2 Challange trophy championship
On Wednesday 19th June Nutts Corner hosted the 2002 BriSCA FII
Challenge trophy, featuring a host of overseas drivers, as well as some
rare appearances from the local drivers.
The opening heat seen a Nutts Corner debut for reigning World Champion Daz
Kitson, who is the first driver I have ever seen smoking the inside back
tyre round the corners. Scottish white roof Glenn Miller led them away,
and held that lead for a a few laps until English visitor Sean Ward moved
through and into the lead, Bill Batten was the fastest of the star drivers
and came through to take second, with Scottish blue roof Stuart Kelly
picking up third ahead of Kitson, with Ian Thompson the top local driver
finishing fifth ahead of Declan McFerran who picked up a respectable
sixth.
The second heat was led away by Roger Donaldson, but it wasn’t long before
Gary Beggs moved into the lead, Batten again was the fastest of the stars,
but a ended up tangling with Paddy McAtmney on his way through which
resulted in waved yellows. On the restart Beggs led from Donaldson with
Drew Stewert sitting third and Stuart Kelly fourth, Kelly quickly moved up
to second, with Gordon Moodie moving through into third, further back Davy
McCrory, Jeff Minish and Trevor Calvin diced for position, with Minish
putting in a big hit on McCrory which subsequently split his petrol tank,
McCrory quickly climbed out of the car, as the spilt petrol ignited, the
race was initially brought under caution, but with only three laps to go
was stopped and called a result, with Gary Beggs taking the first local
win of the night, Stuart Kelly picked up second, Gordon Moodie third, Drew
Stewert took one of his best finishes of the season to pick up fourth,
with Gavin Fegan and Stephen Kelly completing the top six.
In the third heat it Daz Kitson who looked the fastest in the opening
laps, but soon tangled with Darren McKinstry taking the world champion out
of the race, and thus leaving Ian Thompson the leading star driver to take
the win, with Drew Stewert picking up an excellent second, Gavin Fegan
third, Craig McConnell picked up fourth, with Graham Kelly the first
overseas driver home in fifth, and Graham Fegan completing the top six.
Twenty six cars lined up for the Challenge trophy final, within the first
few laps Craig McConnell ended up in the wall exiting the corner and the
race had to be restarted. On the restart Drew Stewert was put in the fence
on the first bend, Bryn Tootell and George Fegan tangled in the chaos that
followed and Graham Fegan hit Ian Thompson pushing the back bumper in on
Thompson’s car, and putting him right down the back of the field. The race
as halted to get the stricken Stewert car off the track, with Glenn Miller
leading from Sean Ward, Paddy McAtmney and Gary Beggs. Ward soon moved
into the lead and Beggs moved through into second, further back, Batten,
Kitson and Thompson were all coming though quickly. A few laps on, and
Kitson tangled with Stuart Kelly and Ronald Scott, taking all three cars
out, and again bringing out the yellow flags. On the restart Beggs mounted
a challenge for the lead, and in the process tangled with Sean Ward and
both of them lost a lot of places, and letting Graham Kelly into the lead,
it wasn’t long however before Batten came through and took the lead, Kelly
held onto second, while Ian Thompson who possibly had the drive of the
night came back to third, with Jeff Minish fourth, Gordon Moodie fifth
after a race long dice with Barry Goldin who finished sixth.
Only fifteen cars made it out for the Grand National, Glenn Miller again
leading them away and the race was soon brought under caution when Gary
McFerran ended up in the fence, thus allowing Bill Batten to make up the
one lap handicap he started behind. On the restart Beggs came through to
take the lead, but further back it was Kitson who was making the running,
and it wasn’t long before the gold roof got through to the front, putting
Beggs in the fence on his way, bringing out the yellow flags again, and
allowing Ian Thompson to close up on him, on the restart Thompson managed
to get a hit at Kitson, but that was as close as he got, Batten came
through to take third place, with Graham Kelly picking up fourth, Stuart
Kelly fifth and Barry Goldin sixth, following another battle with Moodie.

Nutts Corner 12/6/02 F2
Ian Thompson returned to form at Nutts Corner on Wednesday 12th
June, taking a heat and Final double, in a meeting which seen the return
of former Irish Champion Davy McCrory.
In the first heat Irish visitor Pat Casey led them away, the race was soon
brought under yellows when Ted Holland, Gary McFerran and Colin McCready
tangled and ended up stranded in the middle of the home straight. Casey
led them away on the restart, with Gary Beggs quickly getting through to
second before eventually taking first in the closing stages, Casey held on
for second, with Darren McKinstry taking third after a race long battle
with Trevor Moore, who finished fourth ahead of Gavin Fegan and Ian
Thompson, Gavin taking the place on the last bend.
The second heat once again seen Pat Casey lead them away, but it wasn’t
long before Gary Beggs came through to take the lead after a dice with
Craig McConnell. Thompson was on a charge however and in the closing laps
came through to take the win, Darren McKinstry came through to finish
second, with Gary Beggs holing on for third. Gavin Fegan fourth, Craig
McConnell held on to take fifth, with Davy McCrory picking up fifth.
In the early laps of the final, Gary Beggs and Paddy McAtmney came
together and ended up in the fence, both cars got going again, and a few
laps later the race was brought under yellows when Gavin Fegan’s car ended
up stranded in the middle of the bend having blown up. Ton Casey, Craig
McConnell and Drew Stewert all very graciously moved over on the restart
to let Ian Thompson through and into the lead, and that was a lead that he
would only increase as the laps went by, Jeff Minish came through to
second, with Darren McKinstry finishing third after a battle with Davy
McCrory who picked up fourth, Trevor Moore finished fifth, with Graham
Fegan sixth.
Heat 1- 74 (Gary Beggs), ROI 9 (Pat Casey), 747 (Darren McKinstry), 71
(Trevor Moore), 78 (Gavin Fegan), 901 (Ian Thompson)

Final- 901, 251 (Jeff Minish), 747, 940, 71 (Trevor Moore), 998 (Graham
Fegan) Production cars
One again another good turnout of production cars, and another good
nights racing. Again the action of the night came from battles between
William Murray and Clive Wilson. Wilson and Murray shared the heats, with
Wilson taking the final as well.
Heat 1- 194 (Clive Wilson), 44 (Wiliiam Murray), 17 (Brian Berry), 21
(Mark McKinstry), 145 (Colin Blake), 37 (Paul Nesbitt)

Ballymena 7/6/02 F2
Declan McFerran took a hat trick of wins at Ballymena raceway on Friday 7th
June, at the last Ballymena F2 meeting before the Irish Open.
A poor turnout of cars seen only eight line up for the first race, Ted
Holland led them away, with Gary Beggs in second and Declan McFerran
third. It wasn’t long before Declan moved into a lead he would never lose,
further back Jeff Minish and Aide Shaw came through from the reds to
finish second and third, with Darren McKinstry fourth, Graham Fegan, using
the borrowed George Fegan car fifth and Ted Holland sixth.
The second heat seen the worst piece of organisation I have ever witnessed
at a stockcar meeting, which left drivers and spectators baffled as to
what was going on. Six cars started the race, again with Declan McFerran
leading after a few laps. The unbelievable happened about half way through
the race, when the pit gate was opened to let Graham Fegan and Darren
McKinstry out onto the track, who were seemingly able to join the race.
Declan McFerran took the win, with brother Gary second, Jeff Minish third,
Adie Shaw fourth, Ted Holland fifth and Gary Beggs sixth.
Declan McFerran again took a comfortable win in the final from brother
Gary, while the highlight came from a battle between the four reds, with
Darren McKinstry eventually taking third despite the close attention of
Jeff Minish and Adie Shaw in the closing laps, Graham Fegan rounded off
the top six.
Heat 1- 957 (Declan McFerran), 251 (Jeff Minish), 34 (Adie Shaw), 747
(Darren McKinstry), 998 (Graham Fegan), 278 (Ted Holland)
Heat 2 - 957, 967 (Gary McFerran), 251, 34, 278, 74 (Gary Beggs)
Final -957, 967, 747, 251, 34, 998
Nutts Corner 5/6/02 F2
Gary Beggs took another heat and final double at Nutts Corner on Wednesday
6th June, as the F2 numbers are on the increase.
In the first heat it was Irish visitor Pat Casey who led them away, and
held the lead in the early stages, with Gary Beggs making the break from
the yellows. It wasn’t long before the race was brought under control
after a clash between Paddy McAtmney and Declan McFerran seen the two cars
both losing wheels and McAtmney stranded on the racing line. Casey led
them away on the restart with Gary Beggs moving through into the lead
almost immediately, but it wasn’t long before blue grader Raymond Percy
came through to take the lead. Ian Thompson eventually came through to
take second, with Jeff Minish picking up third, Trevor Moore picking up
fourth and Darren McKinstry fifth, having put Gary Beggs in the fence on
his way through.
In the second heat it was again Pat Casey and Ted Holland who led them
away, and again Gary Beggs who made the break from the yellows, and it
wasn’t long before he took a lead that he would never give up, despite the
close attention of Declan McFerran in the closing stages, Raymond Percy
picked up third, with Ian Thompson picking up fourth, following a battle
with Jeff Minish who finished fifth.
The final followed in a similar format to the second heat, Pat Casey took
an early lead, with Gary Beggs soon coming through to take the lead,
Declan McFerran held on to second up until the closing stages, before
Raymond Percy took the place, with Ian Thompson picking up fourth in a car
that was quite clearly not running right, Trevor Moore picked up fifth,
and Darren McKinstry completed the top six.
Heat 1- 40 (Raymond Percy), 901 (Ian Thompson), 251 (Jeff Minish), 71
(Trevor Moore), 747 (Darren McKinstry), 198 (Mervyn Percy)
Heat 2- 74 (Gary Beggs), 957 (Decaln McFerran), 40, 901, 251, 71
Final- 74, 40, 957, 901, 71, 747
Production cars
The production cars provided the most entertaining racing I have seen
from the class in a long time, with plenty of action and battles, which
lets face it is what you go to see, KEEP IT UP!!!!!!!
The action came right from the kick off, when Mark McKinstry after a three
week absence took both William Murray and Clive Wilson wide. As the race
progressed Drew Pritchard came through to take the lead from McKinstry,
Clive Wilson came back though to spin McKinstry out of the running, and
this let Colin Blake through to finish second, with Wilson picking up
third.
In the second heat Mark Mckinstry quickly came through to take a lead he
would never give up, meanwhile Clive Wilson and William Murray had a
battle for second, with Murray eventually taking the place, further back
Drew Pritchard and Martin Hughes had an exchange that took both of them
into the fence and ended both their evenings racing.
The final was pretty much an anticlimax compared to the heats, Mark
McKinstry led light to flag, with Colin Blake picking up second, Clive
Wilson third and William Murray fourth following a race long battle.
Heat 1- 96 (Drew Pritchard), 145
(Colin Blake), 194 (Clive Wilson), 37 (Paul Nesbitt), 35 (Philip Beattie),
33 (Sammy Goudy)
Heat 2- 21 (Mark McKinstry), 44, 194, 145, 37
Final- 21, 145, 194, 44, 35, 37
Nutts Corner 29/5/02, F2
Yellow grade driver Gary Beggs took a hat trick of wins at a very wet
Nutts corner.
In the first heat it was Irish visitor Pat Casey who led the cars off, but
the race was soon stopped after Paddy McAtmney and Craig McConnell
tangled. On the retstart, Casey led them off again, but it wasn’t long
before Beggs caught up and took the lead, Jason Winning finished second
from a blue grade, with Raymond Percy finishing third and Aidie Shaw
fourth in the borrowed Ian Thompson car, with Trevor Moore picking up
fifth in his first outing in his new car.
In the second heat it was McConnell who set the early pace, but again it
wasn’t long before Beggs came through to take a lead that he was never to
lose, Graham Fegan on his return after a two week ban picked up second
place, with Jason Winning finishing third, and McConnell fourth.
The final got off to a lively start, when Paddy McAtamney again clashed
with Craig McConnell taking both cars in to the fence, and giving Gary
Beggs a clear track, Jason Winning held on to second for the majority of
the race, but never looked like catching Beggs, with Graham Fegan reeling
Winning in as the laps passed. As the lap boards came out Jason Winning’s
car packed in after taking a hit from Graham Fegan, the car ended up
sitting in a dangerous place and the race had to be brought under caution,
allowing Graham Fegan to close right up on Gary Beggs. On the restart
Graham Fegan got passed Beggs, only for to see the yellow grader come back
at him and push the star man out of the road, Shaw and Percy then battled
with Fegan allowing Beggs to go on and take the win, with Pecry picking up
second, Fegan third, Shaw fourth, Jeff Minish fifth, and Declan McFerran
driving the borrowed Gavin Fegan car sixth.
Heat 1- 74 (Gary Beggs), 13 (Jason
Winning), 40 (Raymond Percy), 34 (Aidie Shaw), 71 (Trevor Moore), 9 (Pat
Casey)
Heat 2- 74, 998 (Graham Fegan), 13, 925 (Craig McConnell), 34 , 40

Another hat trick for Clive Wilson, even taking the final after an early
clash with William Murray. Other than that not a lot to report, other than
a lot of cars missing.

Nutts Corner 22/5/02, F2
White grader Craig McConnell won both heats and the final at a very wet
Nutts Corner on Wednesday 22nd May.
Only nine cars made the effort to come out in the wet, but all credit to
those who did, including the first outing of the season for Lewis Foy.
The first heat was a lights to flag victory for McConnell, with yellow
grader Daryl Fegan finishing second, using Graham Fegan’s car again, while
Graham is banned. White grader Ronald Scott just managed to hold on to
third despite a last bend challenge from lone superstar Gavin Fegan, with
Gary Gratton picking up fifth and last weeks final winner Gary Beggs
sixth.
The second heat was again a lights to flag win for McConnell, who managed
to hold off early pressure from Ronald Scott who picked up second. Gavin
Fegan managed third, while the fellow superstar Ian Thompson failed to
finish after trying to side swipe Gary Gratton and putting both cars in
the wall on the home straight.
As with the heats McConnell lead from lights to flag in the final, but
this time it was Daryl Fegan who took second, with Gary Beggs picking up
third and closing in on Daryl in the final laps, Gavin Fegan held off an
early assault from Ian Thompson to pick up fourth, with Ronald Scott
coming home fifth and Jason Winning finishing sixth. Heat
1- 925 (Craig McConnell), 972 (Daryl Fegan), 10 (Ronald Scott), 78 (Gavin
Fegan), 917 (Gary Gratton), 74 (Gary Beggs),

Final - 925, 972, 74, 78, 10, 13
Production cars
The production cars where somewhat spoilt by the weather making the racing
rather tame.
Clive Wilson picked up all three wins, and the only other real talking
point of the three races was a half race battle between Drew Pritchard and
William Murray for seond in the second heat, with Pritchard taking the
place.

Yellow grader Gary Beggs took Heat and final double at Nutts Corner, with
white grader Craig McConnell picking up the other heat.
The first heat was stopped after only a few laps when Daryl Fegan driving
Graham Fegan’s car and Mark Winchester got stranded in the middle of the
corner. After the restart Craig McConnell lead the race from start to
finish with Gary Beggs finishing second, Jeff Minish third after making an
early break from the reds and Ian Thompson fourth after a mid race battle
with Gavin Fegan.
Heat two was also stopped after only a few laps again Mark Winchester the
car in trouble. On the restart Gary Beggs quickly got passed Craig
McConnell, and quickly built up a lead that he wasn’t to lose, McConnell
came home second, with Ian Thompson Jnr picking up third, and Ronald Scott
fourth.
In the final, Craig McConnell got led them off, but the action was further
down the field as Ian Thompson Jnr, and Gavin Fegan fought it out for
position, the result of which was the two cars ending up in the fence,
and the race having to be brought under caution, Gavin Fegan ended up out
of the race, while Ian Thompson Jnr was able to re-join a lap down. As the
green fell again, Gary Beggs quickly moved past McConnell to take the
lead, Jeff Minish also came through well to move up into second, and Ian
Thompson Jnr moved up behind him, but one lap down. A few laps later the
race was again brought under caution, as McConnell found himself sitting
in a dangerous position after a spin. On the restart Thompson took a lunge
at Minish, thus allowing Beggs a chance to break away and win that he did,
taking a comfortable win, with Jeff Minish second, Jason Winning third,
Mervyn Percy fourth, Ronald Scott fifth and Ian Thomspon Jnr sixth.

the way it would finish, with Paul Nesbitt picking up valuble points for

Ballymena F2s, 10/5 (11 cars)
Ian Thompson Jnr won his first Ballymena final of the year on Friday
10th May. Heat one seen a race win for Graham Fegan, with Gavin
Fegan finishing second after a battle with Thompson, who came through in
the closing laps to finish third ahead of Jeff Minish who took fourth on
the last bend from long time race leader Ronald Scott.
It was Ronald Scott again who lead them
off in heat two, until Graham Fegan came through to take the lead, a few
laps later, Scott’s race was ended when Thompson forced him wide coming
out of the bend and into the wall, Jeff Minish went on to take third from
Gavin Fegan.
In
the final it was Gary McFerran who lead them of, but fellow yellow grader
Gary Beggs soon got out front, again it was Graham Fegan who was the first
of the star men to come through the pack, and was soon into the lead,
having spun McFerran out on the way, Thompson was soon on the scene and
wasn’t long before he took the lead, when Graham Fegan’s spring guard came
lose and he got black flagged. Jeff Minish and Gavin Fegan soon got passed
Beggs to fill second and third. With a few laps to go the race was stopped
after Graham Fegan had continued to ignore the black flag, handing Ian
Thompson Jnr the win, with Minish second, Gavin Fegan third, Gary Beggs
picking up his first points of the season in fourth, Darren McKinstry

Nutts Corner 5/8 (13 F2s)
Craig McConnell won his first final, in only his fifth F2 meeting as well
as taking the win in heat 2.
The opening heat saw the first win of the season for Graham Fegan.
McConnell lead the race from the start, while Graham Fegan set the pace
for the star drivers. The race was brought under caution to remove the
stricken Ian Thompson car from the track, following a clash with Gavin
Fegan. At the restart McConnell pulled off, leaving Gary McFerran, Drew
Stewert and Ronald Scott at the front of the pack, as soon as the flag
dropped Graham Fegan, Gavin Fegan and Darren McKinstry having recovered
from an earlier spin, soon made up the places, and it wasn’t long before
Graham Fegan made it to the front. Gavin Fegan pulled out with only a few
laps to go, but it wasn’t until the last bend that Darren McKinstry took
second place from Gary McFerran, with Jeff Minish finishing fourth.
In the second heat it was McConnell who took a lights to flag victory,
with fellow white grader Ronald Scott finishing second, McFerran picked up
third, while the star drivers fought amongst themselves.
The Final was another lights to flag win for McConnell, but the action
came from further back, as Ian Thompson Jnr came through the pack, first
clashing with Darren McKinstry and then a few laps later with Graham Fegan.
Ronald Scott and Gary McFerran raced for second for a long time, before
McFerran took the advantage, only to be spun out by Jeff Minish who was a
lap down with two laps to go. Ian Thompson managed to get through to
second, with Ronald Scott finishing third and Darren McKinstry fifth.

Final - 925, 901, 10, 747, 998, 78 (Gavin Fegan)
Production cars
Another decent turn out for the production cars and nice to see Paul
Nesbitt joining the ranks.
Clive Wilson took a heat and final double, with Martin Hughes winning the
first heat, whilst further back it was Mervyn Thursby and Mark McKinstry
who provided the entertainment.
In the first heat Martin Hughes lead from lights to flag, with Clive
Wilson finishing second and William Murray finishing third after a last
bend hit on Thursby.
In the second heat Clive Wilson got the better of Hughes and headed for
victory, with Murray finishing third and Mark McKinstry coming out on top
of a race long battle with Thursby to finish fourth.
In the Final again it was Hughes and Wilson who set the pace, swapping
positions and exchanging blows, with Wilson getting the win. Mark
McKinstry and William Murray had a brief battle early on, with Murray
coming out on top. In the closing laps again it was Murray in the thick of
the action in a battle with Thursby, Thursby eventually taking Murray out
on the last bend to take third place.
Heat 1- 1 (Martin Hughes), 194 (Clive Wilson), 44 (William Murray), 39 (Mervyn

Three NI F2s and one Saloon made it to Cowdenbeath for their first
speedweekend of the year. Stuart McGammon being the Saloon, while Winston
Weir, Gary McFerran and Ian Thompson Jnr made up the F2 numbers. McFerran
was the first to race, by racing in the GN on the Saturday night. While
Weir and Thompson choose not to race in the WQR meeting. In the first heat
on the Sunday Winston Weir finished ninth, Ian Thompson ended up out of
his heat after a clash with Daz Kitson. Thompson went on to win the
Consolation race to qualify for the final, and pick up seventh place
before rounding the day off with a
sixth in the Grand National.
Nutts Corner Results 1/5
BriSCA FII (15 Cars)
Ian Thompson Jnr picked up his third Nutts
Corner final win in three weeks, by winning a heat and final double on the
1st May. White grader Craig McConnell set the pace in the first
heat, before Ian Thompson Jnr came through to take the lead on the last
lap, with star man Raymond Percy picking up third place.
Heat two seen McConnell taking a lights to flag win, with fellow white
grader Ronald Scott coming home second. There was half race battle for
third between Gary Beggs and Andrew Stewert, before the two got tangled
at the river end. Further back Gavin Fegan and Ian Thompson Jnr had a
coming together, the result was Thompson being spun out of contention,
while Gavin went on to finish sixth. In the closing laps Darren McKinstry
managed to get up to the front to pick up third from Mervyn and Raymond
Percy.
The final seen Thompson picking up his second win of the night. Again it
was McConnel and Scott setting the early pace, with Stewert and Beggs
following, before Beggs’ engine blew. Further back Thompson and McKinstry
did battle as the two of them came through the field, Thompson soon broke
away from McKinstry and a few laps later, McKinstry collided with Raymond
Percy, effectively finishing his race. Thompson soon moved into the lead,
and lap later the race was brought under yellows after Stewert lost a
wheel. As the race got under way again, Gavin and Graham Fegan dived past
Scott and McConnell as they set of in chase of Thompson, but that was the
way it was to finish, with Jason Winning picking up fourth.
Heat 1: 901 (Ian Thompsn Jnr), 925 (Craig McConnell), 40 (Raymond Percy),
10 (Ronald Scott), 974 (Paddy McAtamney), 747 (Darren McKinstry)

Final: 901, 78, 998 (Graham Fegan), 13 (Jason Winning), 967 (NOT
G.McFerren), 198 Production
cars (9 cars)
The production cars provided some very entertaining racing, again with
Mark McKinstry reminding everyone that it is a contact class.
The first heat was won by Clive Wilson, fromWilliam Murray with a close
fought battle between the two in the closing laps, with Wilson only taking
the lead on the line by a whisker, with McKinstry picking up third.
In the second heat an early pile up took Murray out of contention, and
allowed Mervyn Thurby to break away at the front, with Wilson chasing him
for the remainder of the race to pick up second, Mark McKinstry was third
after a race long battle with Drew Pritchard who finished fourth.
The final seen an early battle between Mark McKinstry and Clive Wilson,
which only lasted a few laps before McKinstry fenced Wilson after a few
hard hits, Wilson retired and McKinstry was black flagged. At the front it
was Marvyn Thursby again who took the win from Drew Pritchard, #17 and
Martin Hughes
Heat 1: 194 (Clive Wilson), 44 (William Murray), 21 (Mark McKinstry), 39 (Mervyn
Thursby), 96 (Drew Pritchard), 57 (Mervyn Crawford)

Ian Thompson Jnr took his first hat trick of the season, comfortably
winning all three races.
In the first heat Criag McConnell was led for the opening laps before
yellow grader Gary McFerran came through to take the lead, meanwhile
further down the pack Ian Thompson Jnr was setting the pace of the stars
and quickly came through to take the win, from McFerran and Gavin Fegan.
Heat two was almost a carbon copy of the first, McConnell again the early
leader, again it was McFerran who took over the lead, before Thompson came
through to take his second win of the night, while a half race battle for
third between Gavin Fegan and Darren McKinstry was settled on the last
lap, with Gavin taking the place.
The final was another followed the same format as the heats, McConnell set
the early pace, with McFerran soon taking the lead, Thompson wasn't long
in catching the lower graders and soon moved into the lead, McFerran held
onto second up until the closing laps when Gavin Fegan took the place,
Darren McKinstry finished fourth, with Raymond Percy in the car that

Production cars (11 cars)
One of the best turn outs for the Production cars in a long time, lets
hope it lasts, the numbers were boosted by the return of Mark McKinstry,
amongst others who helped to make the night a little more lively.
Heat one seen a heat win for #17, with Clive Wilson taking second and
Colin Blake picking up third, but it had been McKinstry who lived the
racing up after a battle with Martin Hughes, and then Portadown Champion
Andrew Stewert.
By the time the second heat came round a shower had left the track
slippery, and in the wet conditions Clive Wilson soon hit the front where
he would not be challenged, William Murray went on to finish second, with
Mervyn Thursby picking up third.
In the final again it was Wilson who took the lead where he would not be
challenged, with #17 second and Thursby third.
Heat 1- 17, 194 (Clive Wilson), 145 (Colin Blake), 96 (Drew Prtchard), 1
(Martin Hughes), 39 (Mervyn Thursby)

F2 newcomer Craig McConnell enjoyed an
excellent night at Nutts Corner, winning both heats and finishing second
in the final, to Ian Thompson Jnr.
Heat one seen a race long battle between Ian Thompson Jnr and Darren
McKinstry, with McKinstry coming out on top, on front of that it was Jeff
Minish setting the pace for the star men, and of course Craig McConnel
taking a practical lights to flag victory.
Heat two was also a lights to flag win for the newcomer McConnel, again
there was a race long battle between Ian Thompson Jnr and Darren McKinstry,
and again it was the later taken the spoils for second place. Another
battle further down the field was between Jeff Minish and Jason Winning,
with Winning taking 5th place in the end.
The final looked set to be another walk over for McConnel, with another
race long battle between Thompson and McKinstry, but it wasn't to be,
McKinstry spun after only a few few laps, leaving Thompson some clear
track to start making up ground. McConnel lead for a long time with Gary
McFerren second, but it wasn't long before Thompson was on the scene,
after trailing behind Gavin Fegan for a few laps, who was later black
flagged after his wheel guard came loose. The race looked set to be
another McConnel victory, with Thompson looking like picking up a second
place, but with only a few laps remaining, McConnel spun, leaving the way
clear for Ian Thompson Jnr to go through and take the win , McConnel
recovered to finish second, with Gary McFerran picking up third place

In Heat two Ian Thompson Jnr once again found himself in the thick of it,
this time clashing with Graham Fegan, and taking him out of the race, at
